Hi,
At long last this coveris done. Sixty-two versions ago, I find the first version of this project was saved about July of 2025.Thus, it has indeed been a long haul.
Both @Oldhead49 and I had medical issues to deal with and a host of other issues. One guitarist that had agreed to do this song quit, after I had the lead vox was laid down. Fortunately Oldhead stepped in and said a decent vocal effort could not go to waste. He then did guitars, bass, keys and a cameo performance of backing vocals in the “Over Mulholland” area of the song. There was another challenge since Oldhead does not own an acoustic guitar. I know he tried some Nashville tuning and at one point borrowed an acoustic 6 string.
At any rate, have a listen and look. We appreciate all feedback and welcome it. Though constructive feedback is most valued.
I enjoyed this: well performed and well produced cover of a great song. I don’t know the original version well: my one suggestion regarding your production is that it could be stripped back a little: there are a couple of passages, c. 2.30 - 2.50, where it sounds too busy.
Hi Brian - @beejay56,
Well sure, we could strip back our offering, but then it would not be like the original. The one area you mention is what I call the Mulholland background singers. Those backing vocals are in the original song as well.
But here - Have a listen to the original and let me know what you think after listening, comparing ours and the original. I think you will find the 2 versions pretty close.
Take good care and thanks for the comment and suggestions!
The sound of summer arriving. Takes me back to 6th form parties in the warm summer of 1990, just before we all went our ways to different Universities across the UK.
Great days and a great cover.
Guitars sound sweet.
Nice harmonies on the vocals.
Very nice production. Totally nails the original vibe.
What a torturous marathon you two have run. I know the amount of time and effort this production has taken. It results in a tight, smooth, easy on the ear recording. I’m in awe @LBro and @oldhead49.
Thanks for pointing me to the original. It helped me better understand your cover: you’ve done an excellent job; fitting tribute to another artist gone too soon.
Hi Dom,
Thanks for checking out this cover and posting the nice comments. On health, it is what it is. Both of us are about 70 or older, so it goes with the course… Thanks for your concern and kind thoughts!
As always, the amount of time and effort the pair of you put in shines out of this production.
Well done guys, terrific version of a classic song.
Keep taking the tablets!
Hi Brian,
You are welcome on pointing you to the original. Mind you our cover is as close to original as we can make it. When mixing we make extensive use of a “reference file” that is the original + any timing alterations made. I have A/B comparison tested the original to our cover well over 100 times plus during the production process.
I agree, way too many of the classic rock artists have checked out way too soon!
Hey Gordon!
Thanks for the listen and comments on the cover.
Tablets? Do you mean, take our pills? Oh gosh, I take so many pills each day that at times I get sick to my stomach! But the alternative is not real great either.
Be well and I am waiting till your next number!

Hi Phil,
Good to hear this is pleasing to your ears mate! This song looks easy to do, but we found it was a bit more than we thought going in. The rhythm or strumming pattern on the guitar parts is a bit tricky. At times I was challenged by the backing vocals. The lead vox was not too bad, but the backing vox was a bit complex. In fact my hearing is not great, so to pick out the backing vox was a challenge. I finally resorted to sheet music that was hard to find, as most omit the backing vox.
