Hi All - another Aussie here - I’m in Perth in Western Australia.
I first picked up a guitar when I was in about year 6 at school I think - Classical Guitar lessons with a Mr Roberts from memory. Failed badly - but was already learning Clarinet & Piano. Looking back now, I should have ditched the Clarinet and stuck with Guitar & Piano. Fast forward many (too many…) years and I’m in my 50s now and have decided to pick it up again. I’m older and the fingers are fatter (like the rest of me…) but so far I’m enjoying this, I think having a better appreciation of music helps.
I bought a Yamaha FG800 to learn on, and as much as I’d already like to pick up something electric, there’s not much point until I progress a bit.
Currently still on Grade 1 but looking forward to progressing through the course.
Looks like a great community here, lots of help & advice from all corners which is fantastic, it’s nice to see internet forums are not completely dead
Anyway, wish me luck as I progress through this journey, and I wish all of you, all the best.
Cheers.
Welcome to the Community Andrew - from an eastcoast Aussie.

All the nest.
Hey Andrew, welcome to the community, plenty of happy Aussies here in the forum, we spent a glorious 4+ months in West Australia last year doing the big lap, what a fantastic state!!! I started playing in my 50s and now over 10 years later am so glad I stuck with it, it’s a great thing to be able to play and sing tunes all on your own. I started with Justin back then and still come back for various lessons and such. Power to you!!!
Hey and Welcome to this awesome community. Wishing you a most wonderful and enjoyable guitar journey.
I said Mr. Purple People Eater, what’s your line?
He said eating purple people, and it sure is fine,
But that’s not the reason that I came to land
I wanna get a job in a rock 'n roll band
Hi Andrew, also from me, welcome to the community! And I wish you lots of luck with your journey - no scratch that - no luck needed - just a bit of perseverence and lots and lots of fun learning.
Hi Andrew,
Welcome from another West Aussie . Hope you’re progressing well. We’re a similar vintage and whilst I’ve dabbled with acoustic for some time I’ve recently knuckled down with JG to make my playing and learning more meaningful:+1:. Good luck
