I admit I have a problem. I canāt seem to stop buying guitars. If I were to scale down to just four guitars (probably still more than a rational person needs) these are the four Iād keep.
Parker Fly Deluxe (this one is a scalpel, super stable, low and fast)
Martin SC-13E (not the best Martin, but the most versatile Martin)
1976 Fender Stat w/Lace pickups (just something about this one that feels special)
Gibson Nancy Wilson Nighthawk (shorter scale is great for string-bending blues)
Oh all those āIf you onlyā guitar topics make me a little sadā¦ so glad that recently I no longer have to limit myself to 4 guitarsā¦ otherwise I would be done by now ā¦ so so so sad that would be
Do you have those guitars or are they yours of the future?
I am at 4 now, and have been told that there will NOT be more because we are lacking a place to put them - I took over the living room due to noise level. The TV is in the bedroom on the other side of the house.
My choices so far have been based on not knowing much:
PRS SE Tremonti - this is LP-like with the PRS sound.
Ibanez SEW761 - this is HSS s-style, but with the very thin Ibanez neck
Epiphone SG Modern - this would be the one Iād trade out. Split coils on both pickups, sounds like an SG.
Strandberg Boden NX6 - Bought this for the weight and ergonomics. The neck feels great until you try vibrato and run into it with you hand!
Links and pictures in my profile.
I have been looking at a hollow body, and thinking about with P90 pickups. The Godin Kingpin is pretty and sounds good in videos, but I like thinner strings and it is set up for 4 wound strings - that will not translate into thinner strings for me.
Actually I own more than four guitars, but there are just four that I play on daily basis (all solid-body electric guitars). Iām not ashamed to admit three of them are budget Harley Benton instruments (some even call them āentry level guitarsā )
HB SC Gotoh Deluxe - a black LP Custom clone with gold hardware, equipped with a pair of very good Tesla VR-2 humbuckers;
HB CST-24 - a PRS clone in which I replaced the original Roswells with a pair of Tone Rider Zebra Classic Alnico 2 humbuckers;
HB Fusion-T Deluxe - a beautifully crafted Tele with two humbuckers and a Wilkinson trem system;
Finally - a true gem (in my collection, that is): a Danelectro 59X with a P-90 (neck) and a double lipstick (bridge).
No more guitar buying. Since those mentioned above are all in a perfect condition, and Iām 71, itās very likely they will last till the end of my (playing?) daysā¦
My Taylor AD11e-SB acoustic is definite for me. Everything else is optional. Iāve got some nice electric guitars but not yet found the ones that youād need to peel my cold dead fingers off yet!
There would definitely be something Explorer shaped though
My wife needs to read this thread. Iām at 7 guitars, and she thinks thatās crazy.
I tell her that everybody owns more guitars than me! (she doesnāt fall for itā¦)
The 4 I would keep from my collection
Suhr Pete Thorn
Music Man Majesty
Les Paul Slash
Music Man Cutlass SSS (heavily modified to be a āGilmour Stratā style instrument)
Boss Acoustic Singer Amp
When asked what Iād like for christmas, suggested a Positive Grid Spark Go ā¦
Also
5. (because 5 was aloud in @roger_holland , Rogierās T-shirt photo):
a Faith Earth 14-fret e/acoustic - my first steel string guitar in 2020, Used mostly for alt-tunings, strung with 13-56ās ā¦ Elixir, of course ā¦
Given my current style of playing it would have to be:
Cort Artist series Bass;
Modded Harley Benton Jazzmaster with P90ās, roller string trees, corian nut, Guyker trem and roller bridge;
JET JS60 HSS strat alike with Wilkinson hardware;
Telecaster (built from HB Kit), corian nut, fender string trees, Irongear vintage pickups, Wilkinson bridge and saddles.
All suit my needs despite being relatively inexpensive.
