Guitar Challenge (Improv) - Layla style Backing Tracks

I can send you the audio if you prefer ?
:sunglasses:

I will try out that site first, as I’d like to have an app I can use to download from YouTube. If I have any issues I will get back to you about an audio file, thanks.

@Mari63
Mari, if the app Toby uses doesn’t work for you, I use this one 4K Video Downloader. And I just downloaded the BT for future fun and games.

I’m just uploading the 2:48 version I used for this recording. I’ll drop the URL here when its available assuming no copyright issues as it originates from NowYouShred’s YT channel.

snapdownloader worked fine. I’ve got a 48 hour free trial so I downloaded a couple of backing tracks.

Thanks Toby. As you’ll see, too late for my latest attempt. But one for the future.

The app I shared is free to use (I’m assuming some payment is required after 48hrs).

Thanks David, I just downloaded 18 Backing Tracks and that’s it for now. I bookmarked your post for future reference.

While you have the free version make the most of it. Here is another BT site I use along with NowYouShred, good quality, good length and lots of genres.

Hey Toby,

Hope you’re good.
Checking you guys out is getting my itch going; even picked up the guitar, which felt slightly heavier with the dust, and had a jam along.

Lovely tone.
Liked the space in the playing.
Perhaps throw in some hammer on/pull offs, some slides into/off of notes?

Look at me trying to sound like I know what i’m talking about.
Digger

All good Dig, sorry to hear you’ve not been well. How’s Katja ?

Yeah a good little exercise, we have going on at the moment. All ground work for taking on the real thing, Appreciate the feedback, all that extra stuff features in another lead I am working on but all this EC impro work helps that develop as well.

Now about that itch ? You know it will need scratching, so why not ?

Take care.

Cheers

Toby

That was a sweet bit of playing Toby, very nicely done. Great tone on the guitar as well.

Thanks Stefan. Just having some fun and learning along the way.

Hi Toby,
You have a great tone going on this. Nice play, bends and vibrato. You are really upping your own bar and it sounds really good. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good vibe!

All the best,
LB

Thanks LB.

I am still in two minds about the tone but a few folks like it so who am I to complain,
Yes you may have noticed a little mini project going on with Layla at the moment. The idea being to help Gordon and David develop their impros. Stitch suggested Layla as a study/model to use and its turned out to be a whole lot of fun. I also punted this acoustic version which is more motif orientated, opposed to a loose impro/jam. All good stuff for pushing the boundaries and having benefits in other areas.

Who pulled the plug out. Is Layla back again ?

Here’s a second go at lead play in Dm pentatonic over the Layla chorus/solo progression. Yup the Layla is dancing with anybody and everybody :open_mouth: Dancing With Layla - YouTube

My first shared recording was an out and out noodle. Wandering all over the place, exploring and experimenting. In this one I’ve tried to pick my ‘words’ more carefully. Now maybe the ‘paragraph’ still makes no sense, but I think it is an improvement.

@sairfingers, and even if it still the garbled speech of a man with one dram to many in him, at least it is much shorter, coming in at under 2 minutes.

Backing again created with my looper. Perhaps a future run at this can be played over the BT @TheMadman_tobyjenner has shared over in his share.

Now back to the all important practicing of technique!

Certainly pulling some sentences together now David. I would suggest accentuating the root phrase endings a little more and just letting the D ring out for a whole bar. You can do the same with the A which is the 5 note. So a good bend is the G (4) on the e at the 15th fret and bend 4 to 5, or go a tone and a half to the b5 momentarily the drop back to the 5. If I am right you are using them notes in the 10th position already, so can exploit them higher up as well.
Good to see you getting up the dusty end at last !! Great progress.

Thanks Toby.

I think I got that accent and breathing space close in a couple of places, but a little too carried away in others.

I know about the notes to bend to hit the R or p5. Of course knowing, practicing, and delivering when the camera is rolling … ah well, just keep practicing and progressing.
