Happy Birthday, Tom

I was having a chat with an old schoolfriend at the weekend, and he mentioned he was turning 60 tomorrow.
We’re like chalk and cheese in outlooks on life and taste in music. He never grew out of his punk phase, so I thought I’d humour him and send him a ‘musical card’
(There’s an incongruous bridge to alter the monotony and shoehorn his wife and kids’ names in )
It was a fun project and I stuck to the punk ethos of leaving everything a bit ‘raw’

Brian, sounds like a great gift.
But hey, who says punk isn’t timeless? I really like it the rawness, please keep it!

Oh my goodness Brian…
What’s wrong with just a card? :scream:
 :joy:

a lot of noise not my music in many ways… But 12 points for the lyrics and the gesture  :sunglasses: :man_bowing:

Happy Special Birthday Tom

Vielen Dank, Franz

I’m definitely not going to do anything more on it!

Cheers, Rogier

I’m afraid a card would have arrived late… and you can’t just send a text for a big birthday, can you?

Bedanke mich, Andrea

You don’t really need a ‘special occasion’ to become the target of a song… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

That’s an awesome gift, Brian!

What a creative and really personal and thoughtful way to celebrate a special day of a friend. Great stuff and probably Tom liked it, too! Very happy birthday to him. :four_leaf_clover:

Entertaining as ever Brian. That was terrific and the rawness was perfect.
If I was to be picky maybe a couple of bars from Quo’s Caroline might have been less incongruous.

Very entertaining as always Brian and 100 times better than a regular old birthday card :sunglasses:

Very creative and entertaining as always Brian! I hope Tom enjoyed his “card”

You should do punk more often! :guitar:

I don’t know where you get your artistic flare from but I think I could do with some

Well done Brian…

The Capitalist / Communist couplet is HILARIOUS

Apologies all, for the delayed responses… enjoyed them all as they rolled in but got distracted… :flushed:

Cheers, David
I recall sending you a musical birthday card in our old home, (even if not ‘personalised’)
and another for my father-in-law
Then there was one for Rogier
I’m a regular Moonpig

I have friends in ‘high places’

Molto grazie, @Silvia80

Thank you Pam @pkboo3

Vielen Dank Lisa
I think it’s more common in Nordic countries to do little songs/ poems for special occasions. Does it still happen in Germany?

@sairfingers
Cheers Gordon,
I could have, but I couldn’t resist ‘needling’ him a bit with something he’d cringe at

Cheers Eddie, much appreciated
I agree

Aw thanks Jenny,
Do you know, I haven’t heard back from him yet.
He’s either bowled over by my thoughtfulness or not speaking to me any more.

A little goes a long way
It’s not quite punk but did you ever see this one from the transition time to our new Community?

It depends, it is more common for older folks, my generation or younger rarely does these things anymore. Or at least not in my social circles. But sometimes, I did ot for very close friends or family, though.

Confirmation of my new-found status…
