Hi Spencer from Canada,
You are an inspiration as are all the other people who responded to your post I am 76 years old, tone deaf with arthritis in my right hand. So I’m probably just at the right point of my life to start the guitar.
Given how supportive this community is I think even I might have a go!
The very best of luck to you.

Welcome, Spencer! Justin will get you started, and soon you’ll be hooked. Learning guitar is kind of like when you first start going to the gym. At first you have to really push yourself to go regularly, but once you reach a certain point, you body starts feeling funny if you skip! You need to reach that point.

For me, I got into it initially (at late 50s) by learning some of my favorite songs, even though I didn’t know a lot about technique. Once I could play a song or two halfway decently, I was hooked, and then got more serious about following a lesson plan, and learned a lot from Justin’s and others’ videos. Just do whatever motivates you until you are hooked. And your path may lead you all over the place. I started with wanting to learn electric blues, then got taken by acoustic fingerpicking, and am now mostly playing classical guitar. The most important thing is to have fun with it.

Hello Spencer, I too am in mid 50’s but who cares. I started at 40 and it’s best thing I have ever done. You will get there slowly and frustratingly at times but that’s fine just push on through. Good luck and welcome :+1:t2:

Hi Spencer.
Welcome aboard.
Like you I’m also a late starter (67) . I watched numerous you tube videos but once I found Justin’s site that’s when i started making progress, but like many have said it’s the practice that pays dividends once you notice a progress you’ll be picking up your guitar every time you pass it even if it’s just to strum a few chords. I recommend you download Justin’s one minute chord change app it really works for me.
If you ever find your having a mare with something just have a look on this community site and you’ll find it’s not just you, others have had the same problem and there’s plenty of advice and support to help you on your journey.
All the best :+1:

@KennyB1957 Thank you. Is there a “one minute chord change app” separate to the justin guitar app?

Hi Spencer
Yes just type in to App Store Justin guitar one minute changes .
It’s got a lot of chords you can choose to change from.
