Hi Steve, welcome! When I started a few weeks ago I had to significantly lower my standards as well. But once I had lowered them, everything I played suddenly sounded like music to my ears;) That makes practicing so much fun! And that lead to me now being able to play along with songs:smiley:

I also recommend watching Nitsuj practice, that will give you some kind of reference (although he has a lot of knowledge that undoubtedly helps him learn much faster!)

Anyway, have fun!!

Hi Steve, welcome!

Me too, am wishing the same!
But having found Justin’s lessons, you don’t have to get frustrated, I think.
I had a much easier time now than much earlier in my life when I tried the guitar shortly!
Now it was easier because I had dabbled around with the ukulele for a bit. So if you get frustrated, that would be a possibility for quicker fun and easier learning that still helps with the guitar to a certain degree.

Hi Steve, welcome to the community. I have been enjoying 3 years of continuous playing and learning with Justin and continuing to learn new things at the age of 70. So you have many years of learning ahead of you. The biggest advantage I have now is some patience that I guess comes from experience. 15 to 30 minutes every day will be much better than a 2 hour marathon practice session one day a week. Play a little every day, find songs that you love and have fun and you will continue to make progress.

Rock on Steve! Think about all the songs you love, make a list of them and just knock em out one by one. It will literally be one battle after another but will be soo worth it :guitar:

Thank you Sonyal…

I hope so, Sonyal…Tips of my fingers are as tough as the skin on Rhino …but my strumming still sounds as if I’m committing a crime!

But thnk you for the welcome!

Many thanks Silvia…

So many welcoming people on here …if it’s the last thing I ever do, I’m gonna get a tune out of this wooden box!

And I still have no idea how this messaging (and community) thing works?..I seem to be typing a heck of a lot of ‘thank you’ messages!

Kind regards

Hello Steve.

Welcome to JustinGuitar and this fantastic community. Please take your time to look around and get to know the wider space. View by Categories.

We are a supportive and encouraging group of students and guitarists from across the world. Essentially, we are all here for music and to improve as players. We truly are a ‘community’. Members help and support one another and a friendly, positive attitude underpins this. We hope that all - young or old, experienced or new players - adopt and foster the pay-it-forward ethos that Justin personifies and embedded all those years ago when he started the website and forum.

Also, please make sure to read the Community Etiquette announcement for some important information and guidance.

If you want to record yourself to show your progress and / or seek feedback there is our ever popular Community Recordings section.

Behind the scenes there is a small and dedicated team who work to make the JustinGuitar experience as good as it can be. Check out the Onboarding sessions provided by Fanny.

Justin also has a small group of Approved Teachers he recommends for people wanting 1-to-1 lessons to supplement his courses - of which I am privileged to be one.

We also host regular (virtual) JustinGuitar Community Open Mic events for community members.

That is plenty to be going on with. It is a vast community space so if you need help as you find your way around just ask.

Cheers. Richard
