Hi, I am Kate, I have no idea what I am doing

I trully dont. what is this forum for? not trying to be rude, this is just all very new to me.
I am christian, nearly 17, but only became christian three years ago.
I have had a guitar for ages. I found a heap of John Denver songs on youtube and decided that I wanted to learn to play the guitar so I could play his songs. There’s nothing normal about me, and I am SO glad about that

Hi Kate,
Welcome here and I wish you a lot of fun :sunglasses:

Start the course at grade 1 and even if you have had the guitar for ages (I think that’s what 2 years already feels like at that age  …here speaks a slightly jealous 50+ year old man
 :innocent:)

Start here at the beginning and you will probably fly through it, but if the basics are good you will enjoy it for a long time…
And this Forum is intended for support and entertainment, for every lesson in the course there is a Discussion group or one that you have yet to start… take a look around for a few days and/or ask your questions,(edit) Learning the guitar is the priority here and it should be done with a lot of fun :sunglasses:

Greetings,Rogier

yes, I have started the course. I used to make up songs with my sister (about 5 years ago) we called ourselves ‘The Bears’, and just played around with the out of tune guitar and singing. I want to revise some of our songs, as there was some really good ones, surprising seeing as they were written by a 12 year old and a 9 year old.

Welcome to the forum Kate

It’s for me!
or for what anyone else wants out of it, I guess…
We measure ‘ages’ in decades here.
Welcome aboard.
(Ignore @roger_holland’s halo. He’s neither a saint, nor innocent )
Looking forward to some grizzly tunes

Welcome. As previously mentioned, the forum is for questions, advice, and even just hanging with like-minded souls. I recommend using the search function, that magnifying glass thing in the upper right near your avatar. Lots of questions have been answered by many people over the years.

John Denver is cool. I’m currently working on Country Roads on my acoustic.

Welcome Kate.

The big thing is you have found JustinGuitar and want to learn to play. So you now have a great teacher with a tried and tested method and course structure.

Next you found us here ! At times you may question if that was a good thing ! But we are here to support one another to progress on this journey. There will people like you just starting and people who think they know what they are talking about like me and the ones who know a heck of a lot more. Guess I am saying an array of experience that can cover every concern or question, as they have all be asked before. But don’t let that put you off asking, we are here to help.

Enjoy the ride.

Hi Kate, welcome to the community forum. I see that there is a grade 1 song lesson for “Take Me Home, Country Roads” on the website and also a grade 2 song lesson “Leaving On A Jet Plane”. Have fun learning songs and don’t be afraid to ask for help in the community forum.

ooh, I’l have a look!

Hi Kate and welcome aboard. I’m in the first series of lessons learning to play a 6-string guitar. Back in the 1970s and 1980s I was in a church band playing a 4-string Fender Precision Bass. We used to perform gigs at halfway houses for juvenile offenders and brought many to know the Lord. We also did gigs at church Coffee Houses. Now in my late 60s, I am studying 6-string guitar to fulfill my lifelong dream of being able to play rhythm guitar.

Justin Guitar and Justin Sandercoe himself are the best things that ever happened for us learning to play or becoming better at playing 6-string guitars. I cannot say enough good things about Justin and his forums, lessons, and all of the other goodies that he has to offer. Enjoy yourself, immerse yourself, and learn lots from Justin’s https://justinguitar.com and I’ll be looking forward to seeing you and your sister playing songs here for all to enjoy !

Blessings my friend and keep us posted on your journey with Justin Guitar!

Hi,

I like your straightforward communication and the fact you are not afraid to speak up about not knowing what this is about!

This Community is a place to

  • ask questions about guitar playing, singing, guitars themselves, amps, effects, techniques, styles, chords, songs, lessons by Justin, the website, the app, the teachers and their free live clubs, the Community Open Mic, … Trust me, I’n my nearly 20y of being here, there is no questions too silly.

  • This Community can’t exist without its many members. Some are very active and try to answer everything they can with the knowledge and experience they have. Others chip in when they feel like it, others just read along…which is perfectly fine too and to the lurkers out there; love you too <3

  • If you want to ask a question, try to find the right category. If you can’t find a category… no worries, just ask it to be set in the correct spot and us (the mods) will take care of it becasue we know you’re still growing on this Community. We are here to learn, right?!

  • You can also SHARE here; your victories, plans, dreams, achievements, fears, frustrations, … You can even share recordings (audio and video) and decide whther or not you want feedback or on which specific part you want feedback. Don’t feel forced to do so because other share. What you share is your decision.

  • I hope you feel welcome here and this Community is asafe space for you. Many people here contribute to make it a trusty and warm nest. We do it for so long now and yet each new member is welcomed just as warm and that delights me.

  • Although we refrain from discussing politics and religion (that’s a clear rule) you will find that we share values of care with those who mean well. I’m sure you will understand it and be able to share these values with us while keeping this rule in mind

Most of all,

Welcome to this great Community!

on that note, should I use a full size guitar? I have a parlor guitar, I think it is 3/4 size, would it be easier to use a ful size one?

A parlor guitar isn’t a 3/4 guitar, it’s often 24" scale length. (in comparison, Fender Strats and Tele’s are 25.5" and many Gibsons are 27.75"). I own a Jaguar type guitar which is 24" and Mustang type guitar that is only 23"

Any idea of the brand and type?
