So I’ve seen this in more than a few songs, where the same chord is shown back to back, but all in the same bar. In this case, I have been playing the G chord with the Old Faithful strum pattern, but I am wondering if I am suppose to play it differently. These screen shots are from Nirvana’s Come As You Are.
Note that this is using the Justin Guitar App for Android
In Nirvana’s The Man Who Sold The World, the D-DU-UDU strumming rhythm is used and when a measure indicated a chord with 2 beats, only the first 2 strum beats of the rhythm are played I.e D-DU.
Possibly the two G’s in the measure could represent a rhythm change? D-DU, D-DU then returning to the normal strumming rhythm D-DU-UD-.
Definitely a glitch. I checked the TAB on the website. It should be a normal 4 beat bar.
And now you’ve got me thrashing power chords here, it is a cool song for beginners.
I have seen this several times in the app on my Apple iPhone… I either ignore it & play the bar “normally” or use it as a “signpost” to alter the strum pattern for the 2nd half of the bar - if it sounds good!
My first in-person guitar teacher’s mantra was “Don’t sweat the small stuff”… just play the guitar!!!
Thanks a lot. I for sure am just playing through it like a normal bar, but just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something. My phone is a Samsung S21, but my older phones do the same thing. So just lucky I guess.
