So, my BD is coming up. I’m considering a couple of things. I like Classic Rock, Southern Rock, Grunge, a bit of New Wave like The Cure, CCR, a tad of Metallica.
I have a DiMarzio Chopper in the bridge position of my Player 2 Strat. Considering changing out the single coils for Area 58s or Fast Tracks. That would cover rock better and still, I think, give me decent cleans.
Buy a PRS SE Studio as a second guitar to cover my tonal possibilities.
My current guitar covers everything so just stop. Nothing else needed.
I like my acoustic, but don’t really play it much. Not sure going forward if I should keep it. I could sell it or trade it in to cover the cost of a new guitar.
So, what do you think? Any opinions on my thoughts? (other than the shiny new toy/kid in a candy store angle )
I have a Dean Zelinsky Tagliare (SSS Strat type). When pondering your exact question, I got a PRS SE Hollowbody Standard. I kept my Taylor acoustic. Issue resolved.
Tried out the PRS, okay, but not-quite-digging-it. I’ll keep my acoustic. Contemplating changing out the single coils on my strat for noiseless. Possibly the Fast Tracks. Also, I really dug the Charvel Pro-Mod Socal. So, if I pick up another, I might get that one.
far be it from me to tell you not to buy something, but I’d hesitate to change the one you have because then you lose out on those tone options. unless you really hate it and then I’d wonder about selling it and getting something else.
Seems to me if you want a guitar with different sounds, you should pick another guitar that gives you different sounds. If you have a strat type now, maybe look at something with a pair of humbuckers or even p90’s. a semi hollow or maybe a solid body single cut or maybe even something a little different from those classic shapes.
I’d suggest: go to your local guitar shop (if you have one), tell them what you told us in the OP (with whatever updates you have since) and see what they say.
They’ll be knowledgeable (probably) and should be helpful.
While there’s a lot of truth in this, if you don’t have a direction in mind you will likely come away with another guitar, whatever they have in other words and you convince yourself that’s the missing piece of the jigsaw when really it’s just another guitar that you later regret
imho,
Keep what ya got.
But change up by giving your acoustic some love. It’ll let the real you out w/o effects.
If GAS really has got the best of you. Go guitar shopping but get something that’s pretty darn different than your strat. Plenty of variations in guitars that meets that criteria.
What ever ya do. Have fun doing it. Make some music!
Yeah, had a Squier Sonic HSS, modified it a bunch, then traded it in. Then decided to pick up a Player 2 SSS. I don’t know why I talked myself into SSS. I missed the humbucker on the Sonic. I kept using the s->h setting in my Katana so I put a Chopper in the MIM.
I won’t buy a new guitar. I won’t sell my acoustic. At the most, I “might” upgrade the two single coils, but I’ll play it some more first. Thanks! (he says while resisting looking at pics of the Dark Knight strat…) lol
Sounds like you need the Adem Jones Custom made Epiphone/Gibson based on the 1979 Gibson LP custom he uses for his sound in Tool. They sound really sick.
Here is a thread I started on these a little while back.
Since I started that thread I found out one of my bros has one. It sounds amazing and like nothing else. Cheak the specs.
