IF YOU'RE WONDERING, IF I WANT YOU TO, I WANT YOU TO - A Cover by NaNa, Oldhead49 & LBro

This song is a special cover we made that has a couple of unique twists. The first of which is that I was able to convince NaNa to come back and sing the female vocal parts. Mind you she has not sang in well over 2 years! The next bit of trivia is that Oldhead49 had his hands full on this one with guitars and bass. This song was tracked at 219bpm. So it indeed fits the bill as “up tempo”. Even NaNa commented on how fast it was when she heard it while considering whether or not to do it.

On the video I actually made 2 videos for this project. The first had footage in it from our Families recent trip to Maui. While a nice video, with some great shots in it, the crew felt it did not measure up to the fast pace of the song and pull one into it. So what you see is actually a second video I made up. It borrows a bit from a Weezer live performance that was the actual version of the song we covered.

The vocal chorus sections are very complex and really needed more voices in there on the male side than just mine. Alas we had no one else to help fill in the chorus sections. So I did the best I could and hope you find the vocals there, ok.

We hope you enjoy this effort and can listen to it over there across the pond, no matter if sipping tea or coffee!

Fab Coast to Coast romp there, Brother :sunglasses:
And nice proud Dad moment to have Nana in the mix as well. You’ve been forecasting this for a while now…
I love me a bit of Weezer and the attention to production detail is as immaculate as ever.
I envy you having a tight unit, focused on detail, as opposed to my sprawling ragamuffin projects, which always feel like herding cats
It’s quite a feat to produce a song that looks convincing when put to the original video footage
Say hi to the old man for me

That was a terrific 219 bpm romp LB. Very enjoyable. I’m always in awe of multi continent/country productions and can’t imagine the amount of work involved pulling these projects together.
Musicianship and production all first class as we’ve come to expect from you and the gang. Well done all of you.

Hey Brian,
Thanks for keeping the light on so I could find the Inn out of the soupy fog you got going over there. At least I assume it is your foggy time of the year?

Ah yes, the much anticipated Cameo by NaNa - She gave me a yes to doing this and a 3 month lead time! Ouch! Alas, she has 2 full time jobs. One is her work at the University and the other is in keeping a harness on the little lad, our grandson. We saw them yesterday and he wore out 2 parents and 2 grand parents in playing hide and seek for hours! I am still sore…

When it comes to a comparison of what your project work entails vs our humble offerings. I would say we are on different trajectories. You truly have come a long ways in the production department and are growing at a fast pace. Whilst on this end I think we/I have peaked a bit and hit a plateau. But look out as I have learned a few new tricks and intent to give them a go in the next production.

The original video sync footage to the audio we did was off about 2 bars over the total length of the song. So it was pretty close on syncing up, thankfully. I get it slightly off in one place at the end of a segment. But otherwise I think it is fairly tight.

The Old man - Oldhead will be around at some point. He is still recovering from this one at nearly 220bpm strumming! He was last seen mumbling something about a “melted pick”.

Take good care mate!

Nana ,Dave and LBro that was amazing, :sunglasses:  :man_bowing:
And so clever how that video was put together  :sunglasses:and no signs of miming artists  :joy: :sunglasses:
This tune carries me through the day :sunglasses:

Greetings,

That should have kept you guys quite busy! But all sounded great. Nana has a lovely voice.

LB & crew,

What a great production all around!

I love Weezer, but I wasn’t actually familiar with this song, so it was kind of a treat for me to listen. All sounded great- guitars & vocals. How you synced the video up was impressive too!

That is definitely fast! No wonder his pick melted

Turned out great, LBro, such a fun, energetic song. Super work on the video.

@oldhead49 good job as always Dave!

Hi Gordon,
Yes, lots of time on this one. But also we waited a while to assemble the parts. Looking back, I see we started this one in May of 2024!

Thanks so much for the watch and listen. Your comments are great too!

Take good care!

Hi Roger,
Thanks for the spin and take on this production. I am glad to hear it amped up your day!

Be well!

Thanks Pam,
Indeed - we had our hands full with this one. OH was busy with the fast guitars and such. While the vocals seemed to take forever and indeed did!

Take care!

Hi Jenn,
I read somewhere where Weezer die hards did not like this song as it was not “Weezer” enough for them. It is a bit older than their current stuff. I have always liked this one and the addition of the female singer to me, really set the song off. Weezer originally did this one with all male vocals. Check out the “Ratitude” album for that. But to me, with Sara Barelles in there, it becomes a whole new song!

Syncing up the video to our audio file was not too bad. The source was the same for both, so that helped a lot.

I think OH needs some of those pick made from rock! That might withstand the heat!

Take care,
LB

Hey David,
Glad this one turned out to be worth the spin for you. I agree, this one is a high energy number for sure.

Take good care!

Wow that was so cool guys. I can’t do anything that fast but you managed to pull it off. Loved it all ,the video, guitar work and special mention for the beautiful vocals from Nana.

Hi Eddie.
Glad you stopped by and dropped a couple lines on us. I know OH-Dave had to slow this down a bunch and slowly increase the speed over time to get it down. I think this was probably the fastest song he ever did.

I will either let NaNa know what you said about her vocals or simply send her a link to these posts so she can read through them!

Thanks again for the kind words and take good care!

That was great! Thank you!
I wish I would be able to do something similar some time in the future, but I fear this future is not very near, to say the least :grinning:
Keep on!

Great stuff, I really enjoyed this - not heard that song for a while (shame on me ), it’s a fun song and you all did a great job.
The video was pretty cool, icing on the cake you might say!

Hi Dom,
Thanks for the kind review!

I am not sure where you are at recording, playing and singing wise. But one way to look at your aspirations would be to break it down and make it simple.

In starting out you could shoot for a multi-track recording using just 4 tracks. Drums, Bass, Guitar and Vox.

Can you record yourself playing a guitar track? If not, get to this point.

Same as above for vocals.

I would lay down your drums and next, get used to playing to them with your guitar. For drums I normally use a drum sim, such as EzDrummer.

Thus, you would track your drums, then play them back and track your guitar track to the drum track.

You now are half done and have 2 tracks all set for final mixing.

Next you could either play in bass with a bass, a keyboard or use a bass sim. One I use is Modo Bass. Record your bass track and you now have 3 tracks near completion.

I would do a rough mix of the above and then track your vocals.

Once you have all 4 tracks done, play around with mixing them, adding Fx and make them sound good to your ear.

Render out the above and post.

Hope that helps… Breaking it down track by track is a good thing to do as it takes away some of the intimidation from the mountain of work required to make such a production.

All the best,
LB

That was very nice of you to break it all down and encourage me!

Maybe I shoiuld have been more precise, because I recorded quite a few things with guitar and drums and sometimes some other virtual instrument. But those are much more pieces, not finished songs. I have a hard time to finish those things nicely.

But then - yours is really poilished! And a very well made video on top with the synchronization - that’s a very long way to go for me :grinning:
Yes, I am working on something and will post something some day… rather an audio file I think.

Thanks for a bit more background Dom…

I have been around Justin Guitar since about 2009. Trust me when I say I did not start out where you see what can be produced today. So keep at it and be open to learning. I am working a project now to where I am doing something totally different with drums and timing. So at least for me, the learning never stops. That is part of the fun of it all.

You take good care and keep plugging away! Improvement can take time, but steady growth is within your grasp!
