Thank you so much Mal @Malz , Michael @mfeeney0110 , John @Willsie , Craig @CD02 , Pamela @pkboo3 , Robert @robijati and Steve @SteveElder for watching my video and liking it enough to leave a comment I really appreciate it and it eggs me on to learn the next song and practise enough to take it to performance level!
As for the fingerpicking itself:
Robert, go for it, it’s fun and I’ll cheer you on!
Craig, thank you!! I am not going to lie, while it is not more difficult than other techniques, it needs more time to build the muscle memory. But with the right learning techniques (small bites, targeted practise, sleep to name just a few) it’s possible to learn something that at first attempt just seems to knot up my fingers and impossible to do. As Justin often says: just trust the process!
Thank you so much Pamela! Always appreciate your comments and so happy you like my post. Ever since I picked up my guitar again in 2021 I think I have spent 80% of my time playing fingerstile. And despite all the talk about targeted practise I think I noodle around as much as the next person But referring to Justin’s recent video I think I have stacked up my legos in this area a lot, it wasn’t really planned, it just happened.
Beautifully played and sung Molly. Since listening to your version I’ve listened to a load of interpretations, even Elvis!
I think you picked the right guitar version with the Eva fingerstyle. The GL one was the only one I’d listened to before.
Well done.
Great performance Molly just experimenting with fingerstyle myself not reached that far on the course yet, just trying a rather sad song by ELO called Ticket to the moon (before the Artemis launch by the way)
Absolutely solid playing, sweet voiced singing. I have very little to add here. You have a style, a timbre and a very nice flow going on…What can I say but WELL DONE! Love it!
Haha, Thank you Gordon @sairfingers ! Yes youtube suggested that one to me, too, and I did check it out but well, it wasn’t my favourite version.
Thank you so much Adrian @AJSki2fly so glad you like it!
John @Guitarman63 that does ring a bell … have not listed to ELO in years, I’ll check it out. Good luck with the practise!
Thank you thank you thank you Phil @twistor59 that means a lot to me coming from you!
Thank you so much Lieven @LievenDV ! Sometimes I wonder if I am boxing myself into a corner with all this fingerstile but then you gotta play what makes you pick up the guitar and what is most fun to you, right? … I am practising other things, too, but rarely get them to a level that’s worth recording.
Eva’s phrasing (certainly her vocals and maybe also her guitar accompaniments) are a little difficult to get one’s head around. I suspect that’s part of what set her apart from many other performers - so beautiful.
Her version of “Over the rainbow” is my favourite take on that song.
Thank you so much Simon @simon_plays_bass and Jim @HappyCat for stepping by, watching my video and leaving a comment!
100%. Her vocal delivery is fantastic - I will never match that, but she often also changes melodies and I can pick up some variations from her. The guitar accompaniment, especially the finger picked ones, are just as interesting. They are not technically challenging per se, most of them are constructed from simple basic patterns, but constructed and beautifully so they are, she changes patterns almost at random, whatever suits best, and throws in base runs and other embellishments. Getting on top of these arrangements is more a mental challenge but great fun to practise!
Yes, me and my guitar indeed That’s my happy place
Took some time to get here as in it took me some time to realise that this is what I really want to do most on my guitar journey. Playing in a band setting is fun, too, but emotionally very different.
