Interesting music documentary on YouTube

For the Record: An Incomplete History of Music

This caught my attention because I had never seen a YouTube documentary reviewed in the Guardian before. I’ve only seen 1 and a half episodes so far, but it’s super interesting, and may especially appeal to the math and science lovers in the community.

In the first episode, they go about as far back as you can. All the way back to the big bang(!). A lot of this episode is about the physics of sound and how/why we hear what we do.

Pythagoras is the star of episode 2 (at least the part I’ve seen so far). They get into the mathematics behind the notes included in common scales and the relationships between important intervals (5th’s and 3rd’s, for example).

I’m hooked on this series now, and suspect there are a lot of others on these forums that would enjoy it as well.

Good to hear that you found it interesting: I too read the Guardian review of this and was intending to watch it.
