Is this much damage is acceptable

I bought this guitar online and there is a little dent in its backside, even though it isn’t affecting it’s sound quality, but it’s my first guitar so I don’t know about future consequences. Please help me out

Was it bought new from a retailer or used from a private party? If new, I’d return it. If used, it’s probably an ā€œas isā€ deal.

Does it looked like it happened in transit? In other words, was there damage to the shipping container? If so, you might be entitled to compensation from the shipping company.

In any case, that’s not good, but likely repairable.

I agree with Mark, if new it wouldn’t be acceptable and I would return it.

If the guitar really suits you, is it worth returning? Finding a guitar that has the sound you want isn’t always super easy

Well, the binding is only painted → probably it’s an inexpensive guitar?

So, I guess the guitar won’t be forever anyway. You’ll probably get some other more expensive guitar one day.
And then, if you like the sound and it plays well and it was a not too bad deal, I would send them a picture and ask for a price reduction in case you’d keep it.

You should see my guitars. They are so holy, I had to talk the church out of taking possession of them.

But seriously, if you dont like it or were told something different or you recived a quality that was not describe you have every right to question it.

Hello Sel & Welcome!
I agree with the posts above… it appears to be cosmetic damage but unless the damage was in the guitar’s description when you purchased it, you should be able to get a replacement or some money back. It would help a bit if we knew the price range of the guitar also…
Also mentioned above, is that if you stick with playing, you will probably end up with a ā€œbetterā€ guitar later!
Good luck!

It’s yamaha F280. I bought it as a beginner. It’s probably damaged in transit. Thing is that I bought it during some sale and the seller is ready to return the money. But the now guitar prices will be high. And I am afraid that I will have to wait for month,to get the same Guitar on reasonable price

As an beginner i found it quite good. It’s yamaha f280 and that’s why I was little disappointed when saw the dent. Now as it’s my first guitar I am little to none understand about the consequences of this dent.

Actually it’s appearing to be painted but it’s not. That’s black tape and guitar is yamaha f280.

I think I would have to do it too. With a heavy heart

From what I can see in the picture it’s damaged the body as well as the edge of the guitar, which is also known as the ā€œbindingā€. Having the binding damaged can lead to it coming loose around where it’s damaged and that’s clearly, from my perspective, an issue.

Up to you to decide how much you want to chase it. If it was me I’d at least contact the vendor to see what options they provide for resolving the issue.

They are offering return with full refund. But I bought it on sale on good low price. I won’t get this guitar on that same price till next sale, which may be after 4-5 month. Guitar is yamaha f280

Well, you have people’s opinions now but seem you resistant to what they’re saying. I agree with them… return it, because that kind of damage from a retailer is not acceptable. If you’re desperate to have that particular model of guitar then you have two choices. Wait for another sale, or take the chance on a damaged guitar which may get worse within months and leave with you with no guitar and no money.

A third option, which I would take, is to just get a different model that you can afford with the refund. There are literally hundreds of guitars out there for very reasonable prices that would be more than good enough, especially for a beginner. My first acoustic cost me a whopping 90 quid. I still have it 12 twelve years later, it still sounds good, and I still play it occasionally. And while you’re enjoying the cheaper guitar you can start saving for the one you really want, with no time pressure.

there s something I do not get
did you buy the guitar from a store or from someone ?

If you bought it from a store they should offer a return and another not broken guitar at the same price …

It’s an entry level guitar from a reputable company.
I would ask for an exchange rather than a refund.
If they refuse, I would ask for a partial refund (say 10%) .
If they refuse, I would keep it.
The proper way to answer your question is to ask yourself: If you didn’t have the guitar and went on their website and saw that you could order a higher price version/wait for another sale or they had a ā€˜B-stock’ new guitar with that small ding at the reduced price, what would you choose?
You are happy with the guitar, apart from what looks like cosmetic damage. Some folk like their belongings to remain ā€˜pristine’. I like mine to tell a story. You’re already building memories with this one.
Purely out of curiosity, I’d be tempted to apply steam to it, to make the wood expand and make the ā€˜ding’ less obvious.

Okay sir, thankyou for the advice. I will return it

Bought it from Amazon, and I think that was my mistake

ah yes … its way better to buy from a music store , even online

The seller should be obliged to exchange at no extra cost.
