Our Balloon Fiesta is happening this week. Yesterday I watched several hundred balloons flying over the cityā¦ beautifully āpaintedā sky!!!

I remember you mentioning you worked at air traffic control, and the balloon thing, but didnāt know you piloted them. I would have thought that was a far more āmoney-drainingā pastime than the olā six-string?

Well, like the guitar, the biggest expenditure is the buying a balloon & in my case, an enclosed trailer to store it in. Then, I found that I needed to purchase a pickup truck to haul the trailer & put my chase crew into for the flight.
After that, thereās propane costs & feeding the crewā¦ since your chase crew are all volunteers, it behooves one to take good care of them so they show up for the next flight! 
So, yes, ballooning is a āpriceyā sport that only gets more expensive if, during the landing, your balloon lays down over a barb-wire fence & you get to take it to the Repair Station!!! 
Guitar, on the other hand was relatively inexpensive until my wife bought me the electric guitar I had been wanting - damn the woman!!!
Now itās cables & pedals & amps & more pedals & audio interfaces & maybe a DAW & still more pedals & maybe one, maybe two, maybe a whole bunch of more guitarsā¦
Funny, with balloons, I never wanted more than ONEā¦ and the only GAS I had or needed was propane!!! 
They didnāt warn me about GAS with guitarsā¦
