Learning Piano

Hey, thanks for looking.

Couple of years ago when I decided I wanted to learn an instrument, I got it down to a keyboard or guitar and so both both second hand.
Started with guitar and ended up not even plugging the keyboard in.
Fast forward to Sunday, I fancied having a go on the keyboard so I fired it up.
Lo and behold, at a complete beginner level, a lot easier then guitar and I seemed to somehow have developed some understanding whilst learning guitarā€¦
Some of the chords came easily to me and I was able to very quickly and easily figure out majors and minors based on the 3rd note in the chord.

I nearly fell off my chair when I realised this.

Iā€™ve been learning This Years Love by David Gray on guitar and for the fun of it, had a play with figuring out how to play it in triads and keep it on the same section of the neck.

I then applied this direct to the keyboard and boom, in less than 10 minutes, Iā€™m playing a simplified version of it!

I then looked at The Beatles - Let It Be.
In just a few minutes Iā€™m playing a recognisable rendition.

For me the biggest advantage of keyboard over guitar is that I can see what Iā€™m doing.

Iā€™m not giving up guitar, itā€™s my first love, but Iā€™m enjoying the keyboard too.

Iā€™m wondering if there are recommendations for a system like Justin Guitar.
Word of mouth is a lot more trustworthy to me than Internet marketing so Iā€™m looking for and advise please.

Then I have to figure out a way to continue to learn and practice both as well as working 50 hours a week, being a full time single parent, getting to the gym 2-3 times a week, bulk cooking, housekeeping, dog walking etc etc :rofl::rofl:

Thanks in advance
John

I had a similar experience when I dusted off my old Roland synth while taking singing lessons.

After playing guitar for about three years, my ear is much better, I can sing and play at the same time, and I know some songs I can play from memory on the guitar.

For learning things like theory and ear training, a keyboard instrument just seems much much easier.

Hi, like ā€œjustin guitarā€ Iā€™m not sure, but ā€œplayground sessionsā€ is not bad. Video lessons and ā€œappā€ with keyboard integration and practice. Good luck

Hy Roger, for me itā€™s the other way around, my main instrument is piano for over 50 years, love to play the blues and accompany our choir, my second instrument is now the guitar, starting in 2024. Have fun learning the piano as well as the guitar.
