Scorchio ! Stay safe Deborah. 27C Mercredi but low 20s either side. Comfortable up North
next week will be 31° all days for I dont know how long …
I decided to go and see if i can buy a mobile air con on monday
Its not much for playing but rather for my health
Im miserable , tired , and i start to have headaches and can t sleep at night which makes me even more tired
I can do it for a day or two , but a week or more its torture
i hope they still sell mobile air con at the end of august
lucky you ! Rhone is known for being hot in summer
I ve not played for 6 days … Despite the heat I managed to play today
I really wanted to play
Day 179 :
No warm up … I just wanted to have fun on a few songs … didnt know i would end up doing an almost full practice session

I play standing up with the backing track :
Played everybody hurts and Losing my religion by REM for the fun
Played La paloma basic melody level 5
I did it !!!
I played it without mistakes !!! I can remove itPlayed a basic melody called Party with yousician ( old challenge )

grade 2 in JG :

Watched the video : 5 Common Chord Progressions
Songs
Musopia app : Practiced Have ever seen the rain by CCR
Played also Jambala on the bayou
I worked again on Edge of seventeen by Steevie Nicks module 5
I good to work on old songs and hear how much progress I ve made snce I ve last played it
So to recap :
- I completed all the songs I was working on on YS
When To Move On?
- You have memorized the Weak Finger G chord. DONE
- You have memorized the mini A barre chord. Not interested
- You’re able to play the C major scale using alternate picking, keeping your rhythm consistent. DONE
- You’ve learned at least one song using the Weak Finger G chord. DONE
- You had some fun with La Bamba! WIP
- Optional but useful: You’re able to use the Push strumming pattern in a song ==> There was no song to work on linked with this lesson But I worked on it following the video
Glad to hear that you were able to play a bit
Not interested in mini A- Barre? Have you tried using it in a song? It’s actually quite much fun…
As to rhythm push… This one will be my go to song … B7 is a bit annoying, but it’s worth it.
Justin said in the video that he learned the mini many years after he began
I think thats its better to learn the chords correctly as he did himself , have the right fingers position and then later to learn other forms
Its a very commonly used chord Deborah, used in a lot ok rock and very helpful to move to other chords in quick changes. Don’t discount it so quickly.
when Il get the other chords better under my belt
I ll soon see the guitar teacher and will talk about it with him to make sure I learn it properly
so far. im pretty sure my hand is not taking the right form
its just a matter of patience
I dont say I ll never learn it
I ll see first what the teacher has to say
i m being cautious on this one
I agree with everyone!!!
My experience is more relevant to the F barre chord where people look for hacks and shortcuts rather than learning the real thing - which is where I agree with you. Now I’ve got the F barre pretty well sorted I don’t mind using the F mini-barre on songs that use it (like one I’m learning at the moment).
The song goes C - F - D in successive beats which makes sense with mini-barre but is a ridiculous transition with the full barre, so I feel this is an example where the mini-barre is valid rather than a hack. So as others have said, there’s some songs where the mini-barre is the right thing to play.
I really should have added " YET" to " not interested "
I just want to wait untill I see the guitar teacher and have his opinion on how i form the chord
there are months worth of learning in this modules , I can’t learn it all in just a few weeks
I focused on F barre , Fm7 , Fm7/C anf how to really use them in songs
there s sill the push rythm in a song and the 2 mini barres to work on
weeks / months worth of learning again once Im sure im doing it right
What’s the “real thing”? You don’t see Jimi Hendrix playing barre chords and Justin doesn’t either in his higher grade song lessons.
There’s plenty of examples when the full barre is what the original artist played but people play something else because they didn’t learn a full barre
Seems like the enforced break did you some good in that you managed to knock off quite a few of your challenges
so true !!!
I was stuck with these 2 melodies
the break did me good , you re right
One of them was a level 5 , it was normal that i would struggle on it
that s the second level 5 song/melody that I complete
I hope i wont get stuck again on challenges

I found the La bamba riff on Yousician

Its a simplified melody level 5 , very close to the one taught in JG
I ll practice this one to make sure I have the rythm right and then I ll go back on working on the spiced version on JG’s

I bought a new strap for my guitar but I hate it
It slides on the shoulder so the guitar doesnt stay in place and the head is tilting too low …
I like to have the neck a bit high and not straight as if I m sitting but its impossible with this strap !
@MacOneill I used to have the same problems with straps. I now avoid the polypropylene ones and use fabric/cotton weave backed or suede backed ones. They’re more expensive but the don’t slip about nearly as much.
i usually use a leather strap but for once I tried a strap with synthetic materials …
it was supposed to be non slip …
so I bought another leather strap instead
A very hot day today … but I managed to play
I must be getting used to the heat ( 32° ) … no !!! i will never get used to it

About the strap , I found how to adjust it
It didnt slip this time , I wasnt wearing any shirt ( its too hot !!! but be reassured , I wont make any video recording of me playing ) and on the skin its not sliping
its not a solution for when winter will be here
Gotta find a shirt on which it will not slip
Got to be better than 42, chill time !
its almost september so the sun sets earlier , its easier to survive this heat wave
how it is in normandy ?
Next week should be better here i hope
