Ok I did cut corners to get the diploma
There was only 2 songs remaining to learn to get it , and one of them that I will never master , way too hard !
So I butchered the last 2 remaining songs to get at least one star and finish level 5
I will work on the last song , I wont ditch it ( 30 years later )
but the other … no way ( Mentatonic Level 5 )
I really hate module 12
I hate power chords !
I can play heart shaped box , and did some exercices songs level 4
maybe its enough to start something else ?!

I recorded this video for my teacher so I might as well share it
a WIP video of Halleluya by Leonard Cohen / fingerstyle
( the camera cut my strumming hand … but I can tell you that it not correctly in place , it needs improvement so Ill work on it )
I hope @ConstanceClaire will be happy
( I forgot to put on my little hat
)
For a WIP that’s sounding pretty blooming good, consistent the whole way through and a well earned at the end
Deborah
WIP?! You are doing a brilliant job already: steady, clear picking and spot on time-keeping. Well played!
Brian
thanks a lot
well yes it is a WIP there are still work to do on the hand position you do not see in the video
but I can work this on another fingerpicking song maybe
I went to my guitar lesson this morning
We talked about my hand position when I play fingerstyle
for him there’s nothing to worry about
I should just try to put less tension in my hand but it will come with time and more practice
my pinky is too tensed
I ve been working with my physiotherapist for years trying to relax my muscles on my right side so it wont be easy
the bridge on my gretsch is almost non existant too
its not easy to rest my hand when playing
After that we worked on the ragtime trying to add rythm
I asked him for more fingerstyle exercises or a new song to work on ( not too difficult i hope )
and he will help me on module 13 with some blues exercises too
That was some nice playing Deborah! Smooth chord changes and really fluent picking in time show your dedication! I had hard times with Halleluja (without backing track). I had my problems to play all the way through, there was always that one little fault somewhere…but in the end, it worked and I was pretty happy .
Concering the power chords: don’t worry, if it takes some time. Lots of people are surprised, that they are trickier than expected. Although I didn’t have problems to play them, but my wrists didn’t like them at all, so I had to pause them from time to time and restart again. So it took me a while to play them in songs.
Maybe they are not my favourite chords, but in the end, it’s so much fun to play them in rock songs on electric.
You are making good progress! Keep on!
thanks a lot
it always happens !
the word is torture , its quite easy to do the shape , its a lot harder to make the shape move accross the strings
thats my problem , I have no fun at all playing them
I swear like a truck driver !
Never knew I had such a vocabulary
Worse is : I can play power chords if the song is not too fast , but power chords are not meant to be used in slow songs
gaining speed will take time and a looooooot of practice … and practicing something you have no fun playing is difficult
Ill keep practicing power chords but I ll move to module 13 and try learning something enjoyable instead

That was great! I didn’t hear any mistakes, timing was great, and it was the original track? I’ve never listened to the full lyric version before, just read it. Gonna go listen to the original now.
I’ll have to have a go at this one when I get back on track with practicing new things. It looks like a challenge, keeping it so consistently timed as well. Do you recognise the melody if you play it without the backing track?
I think you should get a teeny little novelty hat, (like a no bigger than an apple; like a little top hat or a bowler hat that just pins onto the hair) for your next performance.
I used the JG / Musopia app for the backing track
Thanks a lot
it sounds good ( from the comments I read ) but my hand position is really bad
problem is : I dont know if its part of my neurological issues
I think so !
Its a very famous song , everybody should recognize it even with a simplified version
You know what to get me for my birthday
Yesterday I went very early to my hospital appointment so it was a no guitar day for me ( way to tired in the afternoon when I came back )
Today I had the plumber at home to replace my shower door soI thought it would be a no guitar day too
but I had some spare time in the evening to play so I had fun playing random songs on Yousician
