I was going to say ‘at least it won’t be too humid on the hot days’ and then I realised this is a bunch of times on a few days. It’s so weird that the humidity goes down when the temperature goes up.

Anyway, as someone who has played guitar while becoming a liquid: you can do it! I believe in you!! :flexed_biceps:

I did it !
I played in an OM

It was a big challenge for me and Im really glad I participated
I couldnt participate in the end of year concert at the music school so it was really important for me to pass the trial of playing in front of other people
( If I start to be sick , at home I have all my medications so an JG community OM suits me well )

I really thought I would not be able to perform because of the heat , so it was also a big challenge

It was terrifying at first
my mind went blank when the music started
I took a couple of deep breath and my focus went back
I practiced the songs so hard , my body played on his own , it was a big help :stuck_out_tongue:

The positive side : I did less mistakes than I thought I would

The negative side : I really felt the effects of my head trauma
There was too much informations at once for my brain to take
lots of people talking and I had a very hard time trying to follow everything
My brain just froze , went blank and it was in lala land so when someone was talking to me , I took a long time to snap out of it and since I was in lala land I had no idea of what was being said … therefore I had no idea what to answer :sob:
I really want to apologize about that especially to @DavidP and @mundeli

It went a lot better in the after show chat
less nerves and less people
we were only 4 and stayed very late chatting , I really enjoyed that moment !
Thanks @TheMadman_tobyjenner and @eric.lennon ( and also Artem ^^)

Will I participate in an OM again ? yes ! most certainly !

At the moment it s really too hot to start learning a new song
its the morning here and its already 27°C inside
yesterday evening with the air con on it was 25°C inside , when I switched it off to perform , it must have gone up to 29°C …
There s no fun in sweating and playing , so no guitar / learning songs for a least a week
the weather forecast is not seeing any cooler weather until maybe the 20th :frowning:

I will record Before you accuse me and Born under a bad sign as AVOYPs later
( mostly if I need to show them to my new guitar teacher at school )

Songs left in my practice to record later or for an OM :

  • Heaven by Brian Adams / power chords
  • Wonderful Tonight by Clapton ( still need practice on this one )

Big thanks to all the hosts who make the OM possible !
You do an amazing work guys !
And good job to all the participants , for a first timers OM , the level was quite high :open_mouth:

Oh and I forgot , big thanks to my mother who helped me all week , doing sound checks on Zoom

Oh no, Deborah, no apologies needed. I hope I never said anything that made you feel uncomfortable. I have a darker, dry sense of humour and playfulness and I must understand that might not always be appropriate. So if I did say anything that made you stressed etc then it is I who owe you an apology.

That aside, you did wonderfully well. All your hours of practice certainly paid off.

As for the blank moments, I have had them at OMs. Especially terrifying in the early days of in-person OMs when I bought the idea people shared that I should memorise the songs, including lyrics. I had some moments when sitting waiting for my turn that I couldn’t remember the lyrics. As it happened, usually when I went up to the mic then things turned out OK.

Eventually I returned to using a chord sheet with lyrics. I felt more relaxed, less stressed, so I think that was on balance better for me, even though I know playing from memory enables more audience engagement. And even more eventually I found I was able to learn and remember lyrics more effectively.

So you are by no means alone when it comes to experiencing that sort of thing.

Deep breaths are good. I used to sit focusing on my breathing to stay as relaxed as possible before my turn. And eventually the stress eased off, so I could look forward to my turn.

So keep doing what you are doing, and when you do OM again, do whatever you need to do to be relaxed and able to give your best performance. Whatever you need to do is fine because we are all learning and intention of the OM is to build experience, learn and become confident.

Oh no no , you did nothing wrong at all
you were the perfect host
I just thought that my behaviour may have seemed weird and rude since I was barely replying so I wanted to explain why

Thanks a lot
I was very glad being able to put some vibratos in Born under a bad sign
thats really not easy , I struggled a lot on the hand position for vibrato while playing
its not a huge vibrato but just enough to make the note sound not flat

I thought I did
but the stress just hit when the spotlight was on me
its a very weird moment

Its not just all about playing guitar , its also about being an entertainer :open_mouth:

Hi Deborah, just as David said, you did remarkably well, and don’t forget all the challenges you had in addition to this being your first OM, technical setups, switching between guitars, headphones on/off, 2nd language communications, playing in a sauna environment, this was not a trivial challenge. Give yourself a pat on the back, all the performers last night should. well done.

I had something similar with my cat, involved cat drool and my mouth but still love him also :slightly_smiling_face:

Haha, I see! All eyes were on you!
But when you had your guitar and were playing, you were a great entertainer!
And I’m sure it will be easier next time! Looking forward to it!

Oh, you went through with it! How cool! I’m a bit behind with watching the OMs but I’ll skip ahead and watch this one tomorrow

Im the kind of player you put in a dark corner of the stage , just to be listened to and not seen
not a frontman XD

thanks
I did miss the first B7 beat because of the nerves though

Now I’d say not to worry about that for now. First and foremost is building up the confidence and comfort. And that does come the more you do. And while buterflies may always be present in a helpful way, once you have that confidence then you can start thinking about being an entertainer.

Hey G.M. (aka Deb)
no offense taken, not even one iota, which, I’ve been told, is a very small quantity.
I felt zombieland calling after my moment in the spotlight. It’s such a focus, for a long bit of time, then it isn’t.

Thanks for writing up what you picked up. I need to review the whole thing and look at it myself.

BTW, my wife, who watched the show said, "lot’s of folks play the blues, but she really got it, didn’t she?!, to which I wholeheartedly agreed.

Congratulations on your performance, even in the “heat of the moment” you rocked it bluesed it!

I’m looking forward to watching your skillset grow.

thanks , I was really ashamed of myself when I did not answered when you talked to me
my brain just switched off

I really appreciated your performance and was wondering what had gone wrong when you started laughing :open_mouth:
you did very well when you got lost and came back into the song , that was very cool ! good job !
The sound of your guitar was maybe a bit too low , I had a hard time hearing it ( after all the loud rock songs , it was very different )

Im amazed that you can sing and play :open_mouth:
How do you do it ???
I cant even smile and play
