March 2025 AVOYPS; Solo/Instrumental in A Major

Solo/ Instrumental in A Major

Presenting an instrumental/solo piece that is the culmination of a Melodic Triad Soloing short course I’ve been working through recently, as a complement to JustinGuitar.

All thanks to Justin for providing such a solid and thorough foundation on triads over the last few years.

This piece is basically the two end of course solo studies combined, in A Major. The backing track has an A and B section, each 8 bars in length.
Lots of runs, and tight, tricky sections high up on the neck, so a good workout.

At its core, it’s just 5 basic triads, connected melodically with surrounding colour tones from the A major scale; another showcase of just how musically powerful and beautiful triads are when coupled with melodic phrasing and good voice leading.

Such a beautiful study piece by Ross Campbell, and the type of composition I’m striving towards myself. Not perfect, but, hey, that’s why we’re here. Hope you enjoy.

Cheers, Shane

Oh, that’s really nice. It may be a ‘study piece’ but the way you play it makes it a standalone performance. Impressive!

Hats off Shano, what a great bit of work. I thought you looked nicely relaxed and you seem to move around the fretboard really comfortably. Sounded really good. My stumbling block at the moment is Triads, so nice work.

I hope you’ve impressed yourself Shane. I most certainly am. There’s so much growth in your musicality, a flowering, an authenticity very evident in this piece.

Thanks for the listen Craig, and the good vibes.

Keep on with the triads mate. They are central in music; pure gold in so many ways.
After about 18 months of learning, I thought I’d ‘learnt’ triads. Now, 2 years later, I’m starting to realise just how deep the well goes.

Great BT, great solo. Yes, those triads are not only nice sounding in a chord progression, but also inspiring in creation of a whole song, as they sound ‘musical’. Excellent work, Shane. :+1: :slightly_smiling_face:

Well played, Shane. I really love the sound of your guitar…

Great playing, awesome tones… somehow it makes me feel about 80s and 90s… and I am just 28 years old. This is not bad, I mean it in positive way.
I was enjoying music and suddenly it ended. I need more.
