My name is Shirlene from Melbourne, Australia. I own two beautiful guitars (a Maton and a Martin).
I got them some years ago and tried to learn them, but life got in the way. I am ready to learn how to play them now. At age 59, it is always daunting to develop new skills in anything, but I am enjoying the journey so far love the Justin Guitar lessons and am already playing songs which makes it so much more enjoyable d certainly encourages me to push on even if my fingers are a little tender
Many of the regulars on here were older than you when they started. I was 67, and I’m still here eight years later, plugging away. Welcome to the community!
Welcome Shirlene! As Mark says, you’re in good company here. Those tender fingers will stop complaining soon enough…think of it as a rite of passage.
Always good to see an increase in the regions support There’s a few here from Aust/NZ and plenty of friendly helpful people worldwide. Playing songs and adding more enjoyable songs along the way will keep you going after all it’s why we play guitar right, to play our songs (and sing )
Those fingers wont be tender for long. They will be playing chords and leading great songs soon. You have fine guitars and access to a fantastic teach now. Making great strides so congratulations for getting a great freash start.
Hi Shirlene,
Welcome here and I wish you a lot of fun
I found It’s great to learn new things that can almost immediately be heard in more beautiful sounds and we can enjoy this process for years and years.
Hi Shirlene, welcome to the community! You’ll see, age doesn’t really matter. Lots of folks here who started late in life or restarted after previous attempts to learn the guitar.
Maybe age doesn’t add to learning new things fast, but maybe we compensate this by being much more patient and having more perseverance than in our earlier lives.
I wish you lots of fun and reach out for help whenever you need or get stuck!
Welcome Shirlene, compared to some of us around here you are in the first flush of youth at 59!!
Enjoy the journey and play songs and more songs and…
G’day Shirlene, a few aussies around here. Welcome to the forum. I always enjoy Melbourne for several guitar reasons and I have a couple of daughters who live there. The Cole Clark factory tour is a great experience as is the Acoustic Guitar Centre. Lots of high end and rare brands there.
I started playing over 10 years ago when I was 53 and thanks to Justin I definitely caught the guitar bug. It’s such a reward to be able to pull a song or two or three out of my back pocket any time I feel like it.
Welcome to the forum Shirlene.
Never to late to start and never too old to rock and roll.
And an Aussie with an Maton, don’t get many of them here.
Yeah regular as clockwork in my experience.
Buckle up and enjoy the ride.
We have a lot of mature learners here so it’s certainly possible!
Enjoy the journey, take your time through the beginners course, ask questions here when you’re stuck or consider an online private session if you need some personal guidance
Hello Shirlene & Welcome!
I hope you’re able to find new inspiration in Justin’s course… I know that many of us here have!!! Good luck & keep it FUN!!!
Hi Shirlene,
Welcome from a fellow mature learner. Jason’s lessons are helping me consolidate all the bits and pieces I’ve picked up over the years. Like you, I’m Australian and have a Maton which I’ve had for many years that has the finish worn off along the neck and around the pickguard and it feels really smooth and is always nice to pick up and play. I also have a Martin that simply has that sound that I never get tired of. They are completely different animals.
Anyway, welcome again and I hope you enjoy learning here.
Greg
