May 2025 AVOYPS; NEED YOUR LOVE SO BAD - Peter Green 220525

Here I present to you the timeless masterpiece, Need Your Love So Bad, brought to prominence by the legendary Peter Green.

I’m a true admirer of Peter; for me he stands alone at the top as a Blues guitarist. He seemed to have that inner ‘presence’ that came out through his playing that I’ve never really heard elsewhere in quite the same way. Perhaps his lifelong internal struggles had a lot to do with this. The irony is perhaps, that, had it been otherwise, we may never have bore witness to his magic.

I’ve been meaning to record this for a while, but hadn’t worked out the exact arrangement. Plus, to be honest, I was a bit nervous. I wanted to make sure I could do it some level of justice. Its a deceptively difficult tune, in no small part due to its very slow tempo of around 74 bpm. Its also a tune where there is absolutely nowhere to hide ; every note, every bend, every vibrato, every nuance is laid bare; part of its magic I suppose, particularly in the hands of someone like Peter Green, who was also a great singer.

A couple of minor flubs from me, here and there, but I’m OK with that. I also haven’t sung for quite some time, so had to brush up on some vocal practice, as well as some technical microphone/Reaper related stuff. All good for the future.

This arrangement is a bit of a combination of the original 1968 release, and the US version, capturing all the verses, and the 3 lead parts. Accompanied by a backing track with drums, bass, rhythm guitar. As with all my AVOYPS, its a one-take live recording.

Hopefully Peter would peer down and say “Good effort, lad”.

Cheers, Shane

Fabulous stuff Shane. Great to hear you singing again too! You really have the little nuances down that make all the difference, sounding great.

I think he would!

Sweet mother of J. :collision: :dizzy::scream: :man_bowing:

Shane… You already got the big like after the first few seconds, the rest was just good enough for a super long applause if I had seen you with a paid gig and then I paid for your coffee/soda and food according to your wishes just to say thanks :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

You are the man… your voice was also an excellent and really really great to listen to  :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

That’s it for today, what I want to hear from music, it doesn’t get any better from here . And I’m going to listen to this again today and many more times.

Thanks  :man_bowing: :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

My wife was sitting next to me and I said to her “let’s listen to one of the most dedicated students in the blues music in the Justin community” … she was amazed that you learned this in that relatively short period of time with Justin."
You have an +1 admirer

Greetings from the other side of the world :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I think he’d be saying “Great effort, Shane”.
Love the bends with vibrato not easy to do and keep the bends sounding so sweet.

Great cover Shane, I’ve only done a solo and a bit of improv, I sing ‘Any old note will do’ so not likely to happen
Even if I could sing I wouldn’t have been able to do any better than you have. A big :ok_hand::call_me_hand::call_me_hand::call_me_hand::ok_hand: from me!

I’m really impressed, Shane. Congrats for both playing and singing…

Wow Shane that was terrific. I love the early FMac blues stuff before they changed line-up and went all rock/pop (although I love that stuff too ).
Super guitar work and a great vocal too. Excellent phrasing. A testament to your hard work and dedication.
Well done mate.

Fabulous, Shane, early FM with PG really is fabulous. I agree with Stitch, I think he’d look down and be delighted to be still inspiring musicians so many decades on.

The tone and relaxed vibe as always a treat.

And now I am inspired to spin up a YT if John Mayall and the Bluesbreaker’s album A Hard Road with PG. ‘Stands alone’ maybe a conversation starter. I’d offer he may be sharing the top with Rory Gallagher. And of course many others. And one is left wondering what might have been had he not had those experiences in Germany (if I recall the place correctly).

Anyhow, enough rambling, another super share!

Thanks Rick. Really appreciate the listen and the feedback. Means alot.

Cheers, Shane

Thanks for the kind words Darrell. I’ve heard and remember your solo on this. Pretty impressive itself.

Cheers, Shane
