I am trying to post something every month, however I have not been able to spend much time on the song I planned to do as I have been trying to learn and practice the 8 songs the group I am in at the guitar club are performing at the summer concert in a couple of weeks’ time. So, I thought I would do one of the songs I am learning.
Chose a nice simple song, Crazy Mama by JJ Cale.
Only two verses and total of nine lyric lines, one repeated four times, another twice. Both verses use only the E chord and the instrumental which has a few strums of D, A and E. So not the most taxing to memories, although I did get one word wrong, but it sort of fits so unless you know the song you won’t spot it. I have found out when you look up the same song by different artists the words are often slightly different, so this is my version.
I am playing the shuffle rhythm just as a strum at the concert, so I thought I would give myself a bit of challenge and do the shuffle riff. Only done Justin lesson on it, never applied it for a song. Had about 15 mins practice and then did this recording, so very much a WIP, I do like to give myself a challenge don’t I.
Lots of things not quite right, change from strumming to riff between verses was a bit iffy. It you know the song there is an electric guitar plays a ‘twangy’ solo over the whole song, so you don’t get the full effect. The less said about the singing the better, not one of my finest, I can sing better than this I promise, but when you are trying to play and sing, my brain seems to concentrate more on the guitar than singing. But if you don’t try these things you don’t realise what needs to be worked on to improve, which is all its about.
