My attempt at arranging Sexy Sadie by The Beatles

Hi Guitar Friends! I’m afraid I once more chose The Beatles as victims of my …uhm… “beginner creativity”

Well…I did it all by myself, you know…and here you need to think of a very young child who, with much pride in her voice, shows you her doodle :winking_face_with_tongue:

Well…I guess this just is a sort of statement of my actual skills and overall conpetence on the guitar…and as that must be accepted.

The main goal was to be able to be in the moment and respond instictively, as Justin says in one of his lessons…to develop this…attitude?..competence? …skill? Because we’re humans, we forget, it’s inevitable…but our ear can remember and I thought it worth to invest my time to work to connect my fingers to what I’m singing in my mind…

And I’m singing about a very beautiful woman, as I’ve been doing all my life - no matter Mr annoying Google knows the truth about everything.

This is inspired by the softer Anthology 3 Version, which is the one I’ve been listening to all my life.

Thanks for listening to my Beginner Masterpiece…I did it all by myself, you know :rofl::rofl:

Great job Silvia - Love that song. It’s no mean feat to arrange that - there are a lot of chord changes to deal with

Love that song Silvia.

You’ve done great work in decoding this song.
Yeah!

Very good work!

An enjoyable listen for sure.

fwiw, I love this song so much it’s one of my favorites to play. But unlike you, I didn’t decode it. I learned it from a book.
I cheated…

I like your version better.

Very well done! You should be proud of your work with that song.

Enjoyed it a lot!

I feel the same as Jason said! ( I still have quite some way to go though! )

PS. Sorry to divert… In a first step I looked at some “Best of Celentano” today (oh, the lyrics seem difficult for me. Maybe Eros Ramazotti would be easier as I remember singing along with two albums in the 90s a lot, looking at the lyrics)

Hi Silvia, again, I’m impressed about your abilities to arrange a musical piece like this one. I can only guess how much time and effort you’ve dedicated to this! On top, this one might have been a real tough one?
As always, I can only admire your arranging and playing, great !

Great inspiration! :hibiscus:

yeah, right…, you’re a beginner

Yikes that’s a lot of work, and it shows, that’s lovely.

As a self proclaimed advanced beginner and aspiring fingerpicker who struggles daily at learning to play the guitar, I can appreciate your huge effort. So many chords, so many difficult chords, so many quick chord changes, all while fingerpicking - and on top of all that, you arranged it too! Congrats, you truly inspired me.

Great stuff Sylvia. That song must contain one of the most complex Beatles melodies and you’ve done a terrific job of breaking it down and transcribing it into fingerstyle guitar. You’ve made it sound like a classical music piece.
Well done.

Wow! I didn’t expect so much positive feedback! You guys have been really delicate not to hurt the young child’s pride  THANK YOU ALL :heart_eyes::heart_eyes:

I’m afraid so, but the young child is happy though!

Yes…

I wouldn’t be able to say…apart from that all those “every o-o-oooo-neee” notes and the left hand Legato Techniques they required drove me a bit crazy :see_no_evil_monkey:
The harmony is complex…we learn about keys and what chords in a key are, then one sunny day she comes along and she breaks all the rules!…awww…very beautiful women! That’s what they do! :joy:

Jim…learning from a book doesn’t mean cheating! And I think there is a big misunderstand here when I say

What I did is working out the melody by ear and checking the first 4 notes on the Internet before moving on - the notes for Se-xy Sa-die are A B G E and I had worked out G A F# D …I wasn’t too far! After that I went on on my own and I checked again when I had worked out all the melody…a few notes didn’t match but my notes sounded better to my ear and I kept them.

I didn’t work our the chord progression @Carreta, I took it from this video on YouTube where there’s an analysis on why the harmony of this song is so peculiar. It’s in Italian and while you won’t understand the speaking you can see the chords and your ears will catch the meaning!

BYE BYE HARMONY…I’M JOHN LENNON AND I DO WHAT I WANT :joy:

I think some creativity from my part has been to work out the chord melody arrangement by experimenting and finding my solutions through the complexity, using notes from the given chords when I needed them but playing my own easier and unknown (to me at least) shapes.

It happens all the time in my work, I give the children an assignment and there would be always someone protesting “But Teacher! I’m not able to do this!” And my answer is always the same “I know this task is not easy at all, but you can try and do the way you’re able to…I’m sure it’ll be more than fine!” …then they come back to me with their unique interpretation of reality and in showing me their super creative doodle, with much pride in their eyes they go like "Hey Teacher, look!..

Shortly…Indeed it was

…I experimented and did it the way I was able to  …but I didn’t chose it Mike…she chose me
