My attempt at The Steady Thumb Blues Primer

Well that piece is out of my comfort zone at the moment as I’m only just starting grade 2, but I’m determined to get there one day

Brian…do not worry about me! I’m in good company here with @Socio and @math07 drinking whisky and smoking cigars at a bar :joy:

James I don’t have the number 1 requirement which is the most important one: I honestly don’t listen to much Blues…occasionally on long journeys in the car because my husband puts on his cds …and just what Justin covers :woman_shrugging:

Michael…I’m determined to have your forgiveness! Have you recorded yoursel? What is it exactly that is not good in your performance? Can you tell? Since I’ve just learned it maybe I can be helpful :innocent: Anyway this is not easy stuff, I can assure you!

What was I thinking when I bought it :see_no_evil: It’s definetely too big for me, but I love it nevertheless :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Thank you for your support Tod

@TheMadman_tobyjenner Toby I’m sure I bumped into this kind of stuff with one of your avoyp…when this lesson was released in September I immediately thought “I saw Toby playing something like this!” And I well remember I was struck by the work of your thumb!

Don’t worry about that, I did not either. I only started listening with the playlist that he give in the BLIM. And they are sweet :slightly_smiling_face:

By the way, am I correct to think that you have already finished the match my sound course ? :open_mouth:

Oh no! I just learned this one! I’m planning to learn The Steady Thumb Blues in November…but I’m not sure yet! It took me all October to practice this one, the right hand position is so different from the Classical guitar and it felt so weird and challenging at the beginning. What about you Mathieu? What are you up to?

Sssst … Don’t say that, it would be very funny if all the fools went looking for THE crossroads in Italy to sell their souls.

I still think you learned it quite quickly :sunglasses:   and you don’t have to explain anything more clearly, it’s all good :ok_hand:

I also started with that stuff but another lesson quite quickly when dropped the 'Boom Bass with licks '… but only the first half and Started the (easier? )2nd half yesterday morning so hopefully a video of me soon with a little more than 1 lick

… and Ooooo a girl with a plan …love it  :sunglasses:

Greetings :sunflower:

Well OK Sylvia. All is forgiven. You just have a way of making everything you do on the guitar look natural :innocent:. Now you can try taking Justin’s little primer and building your own blues riffs off of it. I have recorded myself some and it is enlightening - mostly showing me that I have work to do before going public. I am polishing a few songs that I plan to post when they are ready. Stay tuned.

That was fabulous Silvia. You’ve inspired me to have a go at it, but you have set a high standard :+1:

Well done Sylvia, that was terrific. You are now the official classical azzurro girl.

There were a couple of pre BLIM Diaries that covered the Acoustic Blues I’d been doing for some while, the old version of this was one of them. The early Blues Chapters includes the pieces I started on a year or so back. That was a great start and as you have discovered, so much is transferable across genre. Looking forward to more !

Sounds marvellous Sylvia, clearly the mastery of left and right hand you have developed playing classical pieces serves as a more than solid foundation to learn this piece. Classical, blues, I guess it’s all just music

I’ve heard that the Italian Crossroads is guarded by the Mafia… you have to sell your Soul twice!!!

Tod

Oh my god! So many replies already! That means something!

You beat me to it! I really like this one and filmed me today to post my second video, but I found myself always making some mistake here or there.

You did great! Congratulations!

See you soon somewhere around here,
Dominique

Well it was worth the 1 month of effort as the result is quite good ! This fingerstyle course is on my todo list for 2025. Right now, I’m 5 months in into the blues electric guitar immersion. It’s going well  I recently took a 2 weeks break because I wanted to go back to my rock roots, but now my motivation is back !

Well done Silvia, welcome to the blue side. That was one very steady bass and very clean melody lines. You could probably attack that low E a bit harder to create more volume.

:sweat_smile::partying_face: thank you Eddie for checking it! Mission accomplished!

@Willsie @DeltaTyne @Avalon426 thank you so much for checking it, your supportive feedback means a lot to me…I’m so glad you enjoyed it!

I don’t think you should Andrea! I think the very fundamentals are common to most genres, then there are the specific techniques. Though I must admit my Classical studies are giving me very strong fundamentals to be able to approach this. Thank you so much for listening! So happy about your positive comment!

I agree with you on this :relieved:

I’m looking foward to it Rogier!

My plan is about learning The more articulated Steady Thumb Blues without neglecting my Classical Guitar

:sweat_smile::pray:

Ohhh yesss…I’m the great pre :notes: tender…I just added a new song to my wish list :joy:

Jokes apart, Michael, if one is comfortably sitting in his/her living room with a nice guitar, that’s already enough to be smiling…I mean I’m not working hard in a cave! Well…this is what I tell to my pupils when they don’t want to finish the assignment because they want to go and play with the toys :joy:
But most importantly, and here I take the liberty to use the big letters…

 SMILING IS A VERY POWERFUL TOOL FOR LEARNING TO PLAY THE GUITAR! DO SMILE!

It’s challenging, the foot has to tap, the fingers on the two different hands have to do different things and go together and along with the foot, and they move only if in your mind you know clearly how they should move note after note and beat after beat to recreate the piece…I mean there’s so much going on and it’s natural to develop tension, especially in the jaws…if you smile even when you’re feeling the challenge you force the mussels in your face to relax and you get rid of some tension.

…now am I not a good mate to tell you my trick?:blush:

I will!

Thank you Peter! I don’t think this is really high standard, if you listen carefully to Justin’s playing you hear how polished it is…but he’ s a Teacher and Guitarist and has been playing the guitar all his life …so… I feel very proud of myself for nailing the piece to this standard and I’m very happy too

Gordon I don’t get it :laughing: can I be just just "the official classical girl?:innocent::joy:

So true. The real complete STB arrangement next month…hopefully :sunglasses:
