NEW YORK, NEW YORK – As covered by Crocodile1 and LBro

Greetings,

This offering of New York, New York was a fun but tough project. The horns proved to be a huge challenge. This is why both Leo and myself worked on them. In the end I think they came out ok. But I was hoping for better. That proved to be tough to achieve. On vocals I always thought I could sing this song no problem. I sing with it often when I hear the song and thus, it should have been easy. But singing this turned out to be more of a challenge than I had realized. On some of the long held out words, there is perhaps 4-6 note changes in the word and that is very difficult to sing accurately. Alas we got it done and we both hope you enjoy this offering!

All the best,
LBro

Ooo LBro,
Have you ever heard a wedding party, pub party or any other party and listening back a few days/weeks later, where everyone knows the lyrics and is “singing” along and only your ears didn’t start bleeding because you had enough alcohol in your body… .or as in my case I was screaming along so not hearing the rest (while drinking alcohol) :joy:

But you, yes you can sing this, my wife and I listened with admiration to this difficult to sing song during our breakfast… and together you have created a great production. :sunglasses:    :man_bowing:

Greetings

Hi Roger!
Ha, I call in canned courage, where you sing by suds… It sounds great when going down and later the truth comes out as to what took place… :upside_down_face:

In reality I think I have a bit better go of it when doing rock songs. I think this one came out ok. But in about a month, when I can snag my youngest daughter, NaNa. We will offer up a song I think that showcases what I am talking about. So do look for that when it comes out. I have it pretty much completed as far as all of the project goes. So the song just awaits NaNa’s lovely voice and vocals. Stay tuned mate!

Thanks for the listen and your kind words. I am glad you and your wife approve!
Take good care,

New York, New York, Leo, Lbro:musical_score: :notes:
I would have expected something a bit more rocky from this East-West duo, but you clear the bar of production with room to spare.
Everything sits together perfectly. The tone, the timing, the balance, the mix. And I think that’s the slight problem for me. It’s probably because we’re all over-familiar with the Sinatra version, that it sounds a bit ‘wrong’ if that makes sense… maybe over-produced’?
Sorry if that sounds too critical- I’m in awe of the skill and amount of work put into creating this. You can’t change what others have done before you…
Take a bow and rock on :sunglasses:

You were really brave having a go at that one! It’s a lot more complicated than it at first sounds, like you said those vocal slides are not easy at all.
The horns and keys behind it are also not easy, despite that I think that you did it justice, very well put together :ok_hand:

Hi Brian,
I think on this one we tried to be a bit more true to the original, rather than try and rock it up. That said, Leo had some pretty strong drums in there for a bit, but to me they did not fit in this kind of an Orchestral Production. We also had in mind to add some guitar work and indeed that was in there for a bit. But Leo did not like it and we omitted it.

You pose an interesting question or some thoughts on “over produced”. To that, I say. Think back to the day Frank’s classic of this was produced. The actual recording is a bit lacking IHMO. That in part I am sure is due to the tools they had at the time for recording and mixing such a production. To each his own, but I would change “over produced” into. A modernized production, taking advantage of the tools and resources even common folk like Leo and I have today. It is interesting to think that in a bedroom studio we have more tracks, power, tools and know how at our fingertips than the studios of old. To me that is amazing. Good thoughts though and I thank you for being honest and proposing your ideas on this.

Thanks so much for the listen and solid feedback mate. I hope the Inn is busting at the seams with guests and your raking in the dough!

All the best and take good care,
LB

Ha Darrell,
I don’t think there was much bravery involved here. More like stupid to think this thing would be easy to sing. I had no illusions about the brass or horns. They lived up to the toughness billing and challenged us greatly!

Thanks for stopping by and taking a listen. I am glad you found this one to be a decent spin!

Take good care,

That was very cool :sunglasses: guys. Different but very cool!

That one was a little unexpected, but turned out great!

While reading the title, I was like: Let’s see how Leo and LBro spice up this all time classic a little, bet it will be great! Turns out less “rocking”, but still an overall great production being quite close to the original. It was a most enjoyable listen and you definitely did it justice. I really liked your rendition!

Hi both, I think it was great! By your intro I was expecting a car crash as I can tell by hearing original that it takes some practice to nail the vox down. But you did it justice, not sure your signature fx on vox was something that matched this song, but I get it’s a signature. Perhaps if, as you said, you made it even more yours by adding some extra guitar to front it would spice up the song and make it different, and perhaps because musically it’s very close to original it was the reason why it sounded overproduced to Brian. Overall I did enjoy it and thanks for sharing!

@LBro @crocodile1 Both of you have the ability and mind set to face challenges and work with creatively and cleverly to a happy conclusion. This is evident in so many ways in this recording.

PS I like how you sing Nuuuuu Yorrrrrrrrrk, very Frank.

Hi Eddie,
I am glad this was kind to your ears!
Keep on Rockin!

Hi Lisa,
Thanks for the listen and comments. I would not really know where to begin in trying to rock this up a bit more. I would guess the brass could be guitars and what not. But to me it really should be done like Frank did it.

Take good care!

Hey LBro and Leo,
just wanted to let you know, that I really enjoyed your production!

When I first read the title, I wasn’t sure what to expect. It’s always courageous to cover those iconic songs and I very much appreciate your approach on this one:

I can only imagine how hard it is to do justice to a tune like that, but you did !
I understand, that singing must have been a real challenge, but you did your best and it sounds very pleasing to my ear .
And most important: you got that vibe replicated! :dizzy:

Well done guys, I could tell a lot of work needed for this. It is amazing, really enjoyable.

Bloody 'ell that must be one of the most difficult songs anyone’s posted on here. Congratulations guys, it was superb!

Hi Helen,
Thanks for the listen and kind words. It means a lot after a couple of months on this one. Glad you liked our version too. I hope to hear something from you soon?

Take good care and be well,
