Very spontaneously, I traded my blond Gibson ES-175 for a Maton TE Personal, and I am quite happy with this move.
Maton TE Personal guitars were built by hand by Andy Allen, ex chief luthier of the Maton factory, who built such guitars for Tommy Emmanuel himself. Andy is now retired, and this guitar is one of the last ones he built (early 2022).
Apparently, looking at the pictures, it was sold initially to some store in Russia (I got it 2nd hand, just yesterday).
And the top is spruce (I wasn’t sure, since some of them come with Cedar top).
As some of you might know, I already have an EBG808TE, signed by TE himself.
Nevertheless, when I saw this opportunity, I jumped on it.
Comparing two guitars, I can tell that both playability and sound are very similar, it’s really hard to point out the differences. Of course, my 2010 Maton is more open sounding, but not much… The neck profile is kinda different, but not much. The body depth on the Personal model is 5mm thinner. With the new one my right arm and body feel more resonance, but it doesn’t really translate to the outgoing sound.
Thanks, I definitely did not, but nobody did, except for 3 people (some sources say 5), including Tommy E. and Jerry Reed…
I know about one guy, who’s CGP means Congolese Guitar Player, or something like that.
Well, I have this recording from earlier today. Unplugged and played not clean enough, but you can assess the sound.
Musketeer’s Approach by Will McNicol, not exactly TE style.
Ah nice nice nice, absolutely love Matons.
When I play my Messiah, I STILL feel like it is giving me 0% resistance.
It speaks to me: “It’s ALL on you man, there is no bit you can blame on me”
