Erion,
That was great. You always get such good tones out of that Hagstrom.
Ian
That was great Erion, it sounds very tight. That unison bend at the start was perfect - difficult to do that nicely.
I think you need more delay/reverb, your notes come a bit too clear (separated) compared to original where they kind of run into each other. That is impression I got, might be completely wrong. ![]()
@Prof_Thunder , @Boris1565 Ian, Boris, thanks.
Thanks Boris, I’ll try adding more delay.
@Richard_close2u I noticed you moved this topic from the guitar challenge category to AVOYP. Is this where these types of videos should be posted? Thanks.
Sounds good to me, great tone and sustain, Erion
Erion - your solo deserves some love and attention. I appreciate you may have thought it a good topic for a challenge but we have found narrowly-focussed challenges on say a single song (even narrower, a solo from a song) go unnoticed and fade away without much interaction. ![]()
I’ve added a second version where I’m using the neck pickup and more reverb. I think this is a bit closer to the original tone.
Sounded good!
It sounds closer definitely. I prefer the second take, apart from the unison bend which I prefer from the first take. These are really fine details and subjective, but you are definitely nailing this solo.
Sounds great Erion! I love this song.
Thanks all.
I forgot to mention that I performed an acoustic version of Nothing Else Matters in my first JG Open Mic last November.
There’s a recording of it here
(around 01:06:15)
I guess I should do a recording of that + the solo at some point.
Aaah anrtifact from my teenage years.
Hommage to a cornerstone of what kind of things pull us into playing guitar.
Metal purist diss Metallica but they’re probably ashamed to admit that this solo is a masterpiece in phrasing, “less is more” and impact. It became memorable right away bcause the careful listener knows every note and subtlety after only a few listens and that is the clue of a good solo… “singability”
You sang it with such care and love.
I don’t think you need more reverb/delay and it’s mostly the attack of your pick on your string making them more articulated than the original.
Thanks Lieven. I’m still unaware of my pick attack technique. I’m happy when I manage to play the right notes currently
. I’ll add it to my long list of things to learn.
Great!
I prefer the first version.
