Unfortunately I missed a few and I am looking forward to watch the recording!
But everyone I saw and heard did great!
I am glad I could be a part of it!
And I have to mention Erion @erionstrings with his first appearance which was marvelous!

And thank you Paul @mathsjunky for being such a relaxed and wonderful host!

One more… Thank you David @DavidP for calling me to be in this open mic and I loved to see you with your nice performances!
My appearance possibly let drop the overall level of quality slightly less this time

After show chat got me interested in BLIM - and I’m now on the waiting list for January!

Sorry guys, I couldn’t make the live event. As I said in one of my previous posts I’m on holiday in Lanzarote. Unfortunately the wifi here is hopeless and kept buffering so I’ll watch the recording when it comes out.

You’d be best just posting “hey, guys I’m back in Scotland” as you’re always on holiday

Thank you, Dominique.

Well, I do see the smiley to ensure this is taken as light-hearted self-deprecating humour.

Now I am prone to similar, and maybe also like me, there is a serious undertone.

So let me just say, that we are all the same . . . we play at a level, try (some with more dedication and determination than other) to improve, and perform as best we can, which may not always be the best we can play. I too always perceive that majority performing at an OM perform ‘better’ than I do. And in the past I have made the same comments when I play first . . . ‘now I am done, it will just get better’, with Brian’s encouragement I opted not to play that card last night.

As I said in the Zoom chat, in the after-show chat, and now will say again for the last time . . . your playing and performance has improved every time you perform. Bank that. Keep doing what you do, and I look forward to what you share at the next one!

@Boris1565 amazed me with his playing :open_mouth:
and @erionstrings did a fantastic debut !

and you can t go wrong by playing a song from Bob sieger !!!

I was a little sad that nobody did a Maria Carey’s song to start the holiday season
it was the perfect day

Glad to see @DavidP play gain ^^

I thoroughly enjoyed last nights open mic. It had everything from fantastic story telling, original songs, banging rock, great fingerstyle & strumming with excellent song choices.
It was really great.
Thank you to all the performers

Thank you so much, Deborah.
I thought I made a lot of mistakes, but I was prepared for that. The main goal was to keep going till the end. I am happy I did that.

Great night yesterday, fantastic performances. I really enjoyed it.
Big thanks to Paul, Richard, and David for running the show.

I did not notice them

I think that is a great choice. Even if it’s not your go-to music, you will find Blues ideas/licks in many different music genres.

Thank you David for your words. So you stopped, but Brian didn’t urge me to stop yet
Yes, I think you’re right when you say that many (/most?) of us have a tendency to see their own performance in a more critical light than the other’s. Like when Boris said he made a lot of mistakes. Where were they? ?
I think I see it pretty much the same way you do. I think I could do better and see my mistakes, but I am generally at peace with guitar and progress (maybe slightly less at ease the moment when all eyes are on me, haha  ). And happy to be here in this great community. And I would like to be in quite a few more open mics with you, David!

PS. Hey, there was a string buzzing quite a few times. I’ll have to take a look at that!

All good, Dominique

I certainly never spotted anything in the moment. Now some who are more advanced than Boris and know the track exceptionally well, near note for note in their musical memory, might notice those small mistakes.

But mostly, if you keep the hand moving, the fingers picking, and maintain the rhythm (as Justin advocates) then the small mistakes we notice as players (like one I made in my first song) will not be noticed by most if not all of our OM audiences. The trick is not to make a visible signal in the moment, just keep on playing, and not to apologise afterwards.

Some really good performances tonight, thank you to all performers. As Paul mentions a good song to end, ‘Casey Jones’ with Mark and Jen.
A good night was had.
