Guitar sounded great, and equally good job on the vocal.
I think the vocal level was pretty even on this one. So if you made any tweaks there, it paid off. The use of fx on the vocal was also good, in that it sounded good, blended with the song, and I wan’t aware of any fx.
Not sure how you added in the other instrumentation and what options you might have from a a mix perspective. I’d have preferred the drums to be up a little and perhaps other instruments at various points. Though as you say, playback means may effects that.
All in all a treat and look forward to another in due course.
This is probably my favourite performance of yours to date, Shane.
The playing is up to the usual standard, but seems more delicate Not being thrown by a stray note adds to the charm. It is in my book a perfect song.
I thought there was just enough backing track to fill it out, leaving the guitar and vocals in the foreground the way it should be on this site.
Satellite of love next?
Thanks for the listen guys, and the kind words. Funny how songs/artists can transport you, as a guitar player.
@SgtColon yep, the next song may not be what you think. But I promise it’s a cracker.
@DavidP yes, mate, some of your input has helped here on the vocals. thank you.
Re the drums - I haven’t played around with stems/individual tracks etc for a while. If I need a backing track, I’ve been satisfied with the ‘complete’ ones on Youtube of late. Having said that, I’ve still got a few songs to record that make use of some Karaoke UK custom tracks that I’ve downloaded previously. Much to do.
@brianlarsen Too kind Brian. I’m most happy with the vocals though. Some improvement I think.
Re the motto. It is now, 'One woman, and no drugs". Just the way I like it. ( and probably all I could handle ) Satellite of Love? Great tune, but no. Next one is my favourite Lou Reed song, for a few reasons.
@twistor59 Thanks for the swear words Phil. I’m honoured!
Hi Shane, I’m late to the party.
Glad I didn’t miss it though.
Man, Just listened to all three of your songs.
Very good!
I enjoyed all three of them. Real fun to listen to.
I dig your hybrid pickin too. It seems like a real good way to play much music. The best of both worlds maybe as playing with a pick vs fingers has much tonal difference to me.
Plus ya can do things with a pick ya can’t do with your fingers. And visa versa.
Anyways.
Thanks for sharing them three songs. I’ll for sure be on the look out for your next song.
Cool looking guitars too and your guitar tone on all three songs is real sweet.
Arrgh. These multi song threads are terrible! It’s so difficult to catch up and not miss things. Instead of listening to terrific stuff from you I end up listening to people I don’t know who post once then disappear.
Rant over.
Your progress is amazing Shane. Concentrating on the blooozy stuff has really paid dividends. Your vocals are coming on leaps and bounds.
Bonzer mate.
That was absolutely fantastic mate, both singing and playing. Inspirational. If I can get to your current level of playing within the next 10 years I’ll be a very happy chap.
Appreciate the listen and the feedback Roger. Yep, I feel this one came together pretty well, if ‘unexpectedly’.
This take was a first run through to check camera, sound etc, as I’ve changed a couple of things. When I listened back I thought, " that’ll do me" . The lack of pressure obviously helped.
Thanks Gordon. Much appreciated mate. Like yourself, I too have missed some ‘goodness amongst the chaff’, as this forum becomes busier. Perhaps the AVOYP ‘rule’ could be relaxed on a trial basis, and see what happens.
Thanks Jim for the listen, and the kind words.
Yep the hybrid picking has only really fallen into place in the last couple of months. It certainly does afford some string attack and tonal variation, plus opportunities for embellishments etc.
Shane, I enjoyed your singing and playing on Drift Away. I had heard the song before, but never learned the artist and now i know. I thought your vocal approach was great and I couldn’t hear any signs of fatigue. Your tone was great and I loved your riffs. I agree with David that the vocals could use just a little more reverb and I would reduce the reverb for your guitar, but that just my opinion and is a little subjective. I am adding this to my list of songs to play and sing someday. Thanks.
Shane, your performance of Watermelon Man was awesome. It is way beyond me and I can’t provide any constructive criticism, since I thought that it was flawless. But more importantly it was cool, laid back and enjoyable to listen to. Thanks for sharing. I did think the guitar tone and reverb was great on this recording. I think in my last comment for Drift Away I noticed that when the chords progression had quick changes the reverb caused the chord sounds to overlap to my ears.
