With all the recent talk about Rock Course I thought I would give a nudge towards the above. I feel a bit left out at present.
Michael
I’d like a flamenco immersion course. In the meantime I’ve started working my way through the folk fingerstyle module in grade 5.
A Country course would be good, Michael, but I can’t see Justin doing it. Don’t think he’s into Country music.
Is the Solo Blues course any good to you?
Interesting Michael, that’s a good idea ![]()
That discussion is super useful, as Justin seems to take the opinion of the community into consideration for the future of JustinGuitar
From a poll we did last year with 61 voters, you are right that there is a high demand for other styles of immersion beside rock and blues ![]()
What do you have in mind ? Electric country guitar stuff (rhythm and improvisation) ? Or acoustic folk fingerstyle stuff like the module in grade 5, but improved and more in depth ?
Chris @chris_m
I think I remember Justin mentioning in a lesson or song about flamenco that he had tried it.
Yes the Folk module is a good introduction but there is so much more to learn.
Michael
David @BurnsRhythm
I think you are right a country course is unlikely, but never say never.
I see what you are doing mentioning the solo blues course, trying to nudge me towards that red tele. The problem is the words blues and solo don’t chime with me yet!
Michael
The solo blues course is primarily acoustic. (I know, you can do it on electric and people do, but it’s “supposed” to be played on acoustic
)
FWIW, if I look on Justin’s song page, there are about 20 songs labeled as “country” and about 60 or so as “folk”. So, he must like those genres somewhat, right?
Mathieu @math07
I suppose one of the issues is that there is quite a range of both country and folk songs, both of which have a long history. Although you could say the same about blues.
Some would work with fingerstyle and others with just strumming. As I said just trying to put a nudge in that direction.
Michael
No, no! The Solo Blues course is for acoustic guitars and played with the fingers, not pick. The one with Match my Sound.
David @BurnsRhythm
I stand corrected, must confess I saw the word “solo blues” and thought not for me and didn’t look further. I obviously need too.
Michael
John @jjw
As I have just said to David the title “solo blues” put me off.
Yes Justin has quite few country and. Folk songs and I have done quite a few.
Michael
You do……and then you wouldn’t feel left out! ![]()
I’ve been hoping for a Rock Immersion course and it seems that it is now being prepared. Judging by what Justin said about the time it took him to put together a Blues Immersion course, and the fact that apparently, he is also starting to prepare a rock immersion course, I would imagine that there’s no time for other courses, but I agree that a country immersion course would be great.
It’s only since I started learning guitar that I started listening to and to appreciate country.
Not sure I understand this: have you checked out the course? There is some overlap with country and folk styles and you might enjoy it. Not sure what the title has to do with it. Just wondering…
Ian @Prof_Thunder
I am like you, before playing guitar had very limited interest in country music but have very much become more interested in it since. I think because it suits playing and singing solo.
Michael
John @jjw
I am not really into blues songs although I do have a few of them in my repertoire. Also I am currently working on Rhythm guitar techniques and have actually too many I am trying to learn at the same time.
When this course came out I did look at the introductory video and just looked at it again. It is something I might come back to, but not in the near future.
Michael
Nice idea Michael, it gets the thumbs up from me ![]()

I’m not much into country but would love a folk and/or fingerstyle course, though I’m probably not advanced enough to benefit from it yet anyway (early Level 3, doing well with Vincent, still struggling with Dust in the Wind but making progress slowly). Good to know there’s a folk fingerstyle module later on!
Was just about to state the same. Lots of wonderful country songs out there, but I wouldn’t name it as a genre I love so much in general. But love quite a lot of folk music.
Could there be a comon topic of a course that includes Country, Folk, FIngerstyle? I think those could work quite well together and from the poll, it should assemle quite some amount of interested people, but I can’t figure out a common “mother-category” for that.
But then, I am really happy and thankful that Justin is working on the RIM ? or RIC (to make it sound a bit different from BLIM)
and I am wishing that he can still keep a healthy work/relax quotient to always be a happy and healthy Justin ![]()
When I talked to a few mates in here and it sounded like the Rock Immersion course would be years away, I wanted to start our self baked “course”. … It was a thing I did earlier as a student and it was re-inspired by how us pupils in BLIM wrote essays and helped each other.
Like… a few (or a lot) of enthusiastic people getting together and every one picking his special subject and genre / artist and then researching this and giving an excerpt to the others and teaching what he could / or even just showing the others the resources he found (like eg. books, songs, groups, films or even free lessons on that certain subject on youtube).
It was just a raw idea, and the official Rock course seems to come, but if Folk/Country Immersion is just an uncertain wish for some time to come, this could be a possibility too. Studying on our own, helping each other…
Akkana @akkana
Not sure what you mean about Level 3 I presume you mean Grade 3.
Don’t hold back on the Folk Fingerstyle I did it when still in Grade 2. It is also a stand alone course.
