Practice Amp for 1st Electric Guitar

lol, yes. it is if you let it be like that!

I bought a modeler for the variety because I enjoy that. Donā€™t be bashful about getting a simple amp! You probably would want reverb, but you will do quite a lot with just a simple amp! I find myself setting my modeler with a very simple signal chain most of the time.

Yes, and you can use to select patches or turn on/off specific effects.

You can also have at least two expression pedals plugged in to support foot control of volume, wah, pitchbend, gain, or several other effect level options.

Cheers,

Yep, looks like if you buy that amp it would also be a good idea to get the foot pedal unit as well.

Is the Fender Mustang LT25, Boss Katana 50 both modelerā€™s?

Also, I think both have effect loop connections, aux and headphones jacks? Thanks!

eh the katana isnt strictly an amp modeler it has 5ish fixed amp sounds, it models the pedals.

Neither have fx loops

You guys are getting me stoked on the Katana and putting my neighborā€™s in a bad place - not sure I am ready to punish them with a loud amp from a beginner just yet :joy:

The good thing about all the ā€˜digitalā€™ amps is you can use them at very low volume and still get the same sound, and/or use headphones.

Few valve amps can do that.

I love a good valve amp but even 5w ones need to be cranked to sound good.

And I see that Justin has a whole series of videos about it, and raves about how good it is.

I think that settles the debate.

Lol, Iā€™m taking measurements for my space now. The thing about this amp is that you would be getting something that you are growing into. No need to ā€œupgradeā€ anytime soon.

However, I still need to choose an amp. My Strat will be here Sunday.

The Katana is a bit bigger and heavier than initially planning for. Oh, decisions, decisions, decisions.

Thanks for the share there Rob. That was an interesting one to watch.

I think Iā€™d be opting for the NuX. The Spark go sounded a little lacking on he sound front though I did like the look of the app interface.

IMO the Spark UI looks pretty, but that doesnā€™t do anything to make it easier to use and, sometimes, gets in the way as it uses up a lot of screen estate and requires a lot of mouse movement and a bit of scrolling, and itā€™s not always clear where the knob setting is.

Personally, I tend to prefer more utilitarian UIs. Iā€™m not really a fan of skeuomorphic designs.

The bad thing about the Katana 50 is the lack of an effects loop. This means that your looper will have to be before the amp, which means everything you record will play back sounding like the current amp settings. You wonā€™t be able to record a rhythm track with one tone, then play a melody, fill, or solo over it in another tone. This was a deal-killer for me.

The Katana 100 does have an effects loop.

IMHO, the Katana 50 is a great first amp, but you will likely out-grow it in a couple of years.

With my Monoprice Stage Right 15W, I can set the gain to 2 and get a nice clean tone. With the gain at 4, I get a nice crunchy Blues tone. With the gain at 8, I get a nice hard-rock distortion (like a Marshall JCM800). Plus, you can pick one up for only $200 now!

Thanks, Iā€™ll take a look - sales are going to start to get good with Black Fri-Yay ramping up!

Yeah, I do see how you could spend quite a while messing around with things instead of just playing your guitar.

Iā€™m with you one the Katana 50 Eddie and mine was upgraded to a K100 a couple of years down the track.

Wait, itā€™s a tube amp with: * 1ā€‘watt mode for quiet playing without compromising tone

I have to run off to work but does it have headphone jack for quiet practice, aux input for streaming in backing tracks to practice to and bluetooth?cables

I have loved Monoprice in the past for cables - never thought of Amps!

Thanks

You can download the ownerā€™s manual from the page I linked above.

The 1W/15W switch is basically a 2-position post-phase inverter volume control. I use it in 1W mode and ~50% up on the volume knob when Iā€™m practicing.

To be fair the spark is about a third of the physical volume of the others and literally pocket able, probably best used with headphonesā€¦?
