Been awhile folk! I need to get this song ready again to play at my assisted living venues. This video is with the Zach Meyers PRS as my Taylor is my normal gigging partner. Did some different mic set up from my other recordings (condenser instead of dynamic). Guitar is through a Spark 40 on a Glassy preset. The Beat Buddy is through a Spark Mini and the condenser mic in frame is taking it all in. OBS is the platform making it come together and its all dry so any mix feedback would be great.
This song is normally picked but my picking skills are a major work in progress so when I first learned this I put on a finger picking pattern I use a lot and just broke it up on the places that are only 2 beats. Seemed to work to my ears how about yours?
All comments are welcome. I need to go look at some of your videos out there!! Still play almost everyday and perform just about every week. Owe it all to this place going on 5 years this December! Laterā¦Rod
Well played and sung! A really good interpretation of a very sad song. On Cashās version the pick is: 1 + 2 (+), the and of the second beat is not played: your picking is very close. Look forward to your next performance.
Great job covering that song. Maybe add a little diversity in the dynamics to sharpen it up, but overall amazing. I was dabbling with it earlier this week, at least the opening arpeggios. Looking for something the audience would be familiar with and sing along. Also like that you added a drum machine for rhythm. Iāve been wanting to do that too. Any suggestions for a not so complex setup like a pedal or drum machine for an old guy to start withš¬?
Thanks Brian! You are right on the beat. I wasnāt really trying to match the exact beat ( or absenceš). I was just trying to find a way to get close to it pretty quick to perform it! Letting it continue matched with the vocal allowed me to work it up quicker. Anyway thanks for the feedback!
Thanks, Jeff from California! Appreciate the kind words and feedback! The Beat Buddy is a pedal and Iāve been using it for over 2 years. I have the original and the Beat Buddy 2. I think it is the single best device to keep you in time solo and definitely adds to a solo performerās overall sound. I think it will help you if you later play in a band because it teaches you to listen to the drummer. All the drum fills in the recordingi is me tapping the pedal with my foot. So you can get a lot going on there if you wantš.
If you just want it for practice just get the pedal by itself and the original version is fine for that. If you are performing with it then you need the additional expression pedal that goes with it which allows you to control drum song forward selection from your custom playlist without reaching down and selecting from the pedal controls.
Also the beat Buddy 2 has two footswitches already on the pedal instead of the one big pedal which can be programmed in a similar way. So that can work for performing but that version is more expensive.
Do a search on Beat Buddy in here and you will see a few posts on my journey with it. Itās way better than a metronome! Thanks again for watchingā¦Rod
Rod,
Where you been mano? It seems we are sharing your efforts with the lodge⦠So donāt be a stranger.
I like the play and vox, nice job all around!
Using OBS as the glue point was utilized well. If you want to explore more, I would suggest putting Reaper into the chain. It can handle whatever treatments you throw at it and your projects.
Thanks for listening Lbro! Itās all about time choices. Sometimes i just get the bug to do a video of whatever Iām working on . Keep on playing and look up and months have passed by!
Iāve enjoyed your collabs, your production level is so beyond me i donāt think my brain could handle it. Although it wasnāt too long ago i never thought i could finger pick and sing either.
Sorry, not getting the vibe. This to me is a very emotive song, and with the backing track, it loses much of that. Thereās very little room for emotion. Just my opinionā¦
