Roger's rock on wheels

We really are our own worst critics, because I think this is already sounding fantastic! :star_struck:

I, too, want to learn some classical pieces on guitar in the future. Depending on my skill level and the difficulty, I’d really like to try Moonlight Sonata, and the Schubert version of Ave Maria.

There’s also a guitar piece (I suspect a duo) called Elm from the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack that I want to learn. (I also want to learn Mountain Greenery, sung by Ella Fitzgerald, but I had a look at the chords for that last year and it’s on my ‘future future’ songs list lol.)

It’s all tricky stuff. But! It’s so fun to work on and as soon as you get one bit right it makes you feel energised to try the next part.

I look forward to seeing your progress

Hi Brian @beejay56 and also say this to you Toby hi @TheMadman_tobyjenner And Constance Hi @ConstanceClaire
and also some more to say ( :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:)
I don’t mean it harshly to myself in the way that this may come across like this now, I actually just mean the difference between a video of mine normally and this one and certainly from those 30 seconds onwards (regardless of the practice time) 5 days for me is easy 3 weeks for someone else, I often practice a lot 2 times in the morning and 1 to 3 times in the afternoon … from about 2 o’clock and this varies a lot, I start to remember nothing and I go on well-known songs…

Thanks Boris @Boris1565 But…and I also tell this to the others, it is only a small part of the whole. this is the whole thing …Canon in D | Fingerstyle Guitar Lesson (Tutorial) … (Not so nice that I didn’t mention him before) and don’t start about the “Easy Fingerstyle” again, people should be punished for that  :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: …I wanted to record this piece (4 short pieces of D-A-Bm-Fm#-G-D-G-A) in 2 parts, but I thought it was funny to play the last 2 afterward, especially because I have never recorded myself like that in the beginning, and I enjoyed seeing it…and I am also very curious about the next video.

Thank you Mathieu @math07 :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

Toby ,
I looked at him ,dit not see this one :scream: nice :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Boris ,
This morning at breakfast you take me and my wife back in time a little over 10 years, we were sitting in our third floor flat busy with moving boxes when I saw this video for the first time… and not much later the other one where he is on stage with J Satriani (at least I thought that was this guy)

Hi Gunhild, @Gunhild
Thank you very much , yes that chord progression is on of the first things i learn when the Bm kicks in (I even posted something in the first post let’s see how that sounds…I think this is a first time with the looper???)
Ha ha …this is a sort of canon rock
there is another one but I’m not going to post it here, if you want it is easy to find…

I just forgot I have now 3 of them … so much and long I like it :grinning_face_with_big_eyes::grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

so so Constance …you choose an easy one with Elm :scream:
and the others are probably challenges too…cough

I do know that the first few days are always the fastest time to make progress (I think for most of them), after a week I often think… at this rate it would be on video and ready within a week or 2… and nowadays I’m no longer surprised if it takes another 3 months, and because the boredom of completely refining the same song often sets in, a year is also possible, such as with the fine-tune of “Is there anybody out there” - Pink Floyd

Oh well, they are luxury problems…for now I’m very happy that I shared this with you at this point :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:Thank you all

You did the same for me. When I saw the title Canon in D, I remembered the video immediately.

I saw the video tutorial you just posted. I would never call that easy fingerstyle.:joy:

I’d love to play TANK! - that one gives me shivers and an intense desire to be a part of it. I am not sure a guitar can get the right energy that horn section is getting. Lots of good music in that series.

Rogier, what a nice one! Even if you’re not as happy… I think you did great already!
I’d love to learn this too! There are too many things I’d love to learn and at the same time, I’m lazy and prefer to do easy fun stuff, haha

But well… I see you’ll tell me that once I’d learn and practice, the difficult stuff of today will turn out fun too, one day, and I guess you’ll be right…

Oh man! :grinning_face_with_big_eyes: Reminds me to return to return to Blim soloing practice and make some more progress - and better quickly!

Oh, what a list! :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:
Rogier and you reminded me that I should put something classical on my list with a priority too!

Oh… sounds great! A bit difficult to learn for guitar? for me at least
But I would love to put together a song with that rhythm and some similar bass line some day soon!

:joy: Boris @Boris1565 so thank us both :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Yes, easy is an elastic concept without further context

I will hunt and find him and “slap him on the fingers” (not too hard of course, he must be able to continue playing  )

Hi Dominique @domi7 and thank you ,well I did type this

You lazy??? look at what you’re doing :grinning_face_with_big_eyes: :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: and if you’re interested in this kind of thing I think (but correct me if I’m not seeing it right anyone) start with Justin’s fingerstyle … or actually the entire grade 3 is a preparation in my head, but especially start with … yes yes Happy Birthday the first version and so on … Walzing Matilda was a monster to learn just like Greenleeves and more, but that all helps with this and more,

:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

but in terms of finishing/performance and for other people to listen yes :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:, but I try to say in the first week (or two) I make the biggest leaps from nothing at all to … hey I recognize the song in what I play :grinning_face_with_big_eyes: … and also the horror of all the mistakes at that very nice most likeble part always and rhythm errors etc etc , yes that takes months for the 2nd largest half that still needs to be learned

Greetings all :waving_hand: :snail: :sun:

Rogier! You’re now responsable for me listening to this piece compulsevely on YouTube! Thank you thank you thank you!!! :upside_down_face:

That first section (first 30 sec) is already nailed and sounds very sweet. It will take time, it’s true but maybe not so much as you believe.

Just a few friendly reminders (I know, you haven’t asked btw…I’m terrible )

  1. The lesson Justin did with Pete Whittard a couple of months ago: keep in mind the tips they gave about being aware while practicing if it is a motor skill or a memory skill you’re working on.
  2. Listen compulsevely
  3. Take frequent breaks while practicing…you need to give your brain time to digest things properly.
  4. …and here I stop since you rockers use tabs when a good Standard Notation Musicsheet makes things so much easier for memorising, especially when you have some theory knowledge on how chords are constructed…Sorry, not sorry

I can’t wait to listen to more of this…you’ll do great I’m sure!

Hi Rogier, when I heard your performance two days ago, I was sitting at the shore of a big Italian lake, totally relaxed, the sun rays were sparkling on the water and then this beautiful nicely played piece added to a “perfect moment”. Thank you for sharing your progress and I can only echo, what others already said… don’t be hard on yourself! You are already at a good point…no doubt you will polish it up to a real gem!
For me, it’s great inspiration to read that it takes others also quite a while (days, weeks, months…) to get a satisfying level. I call it the “curse of the last 15-25%”. And I always get very, very cautious when I hear or read the term “easy” :joy:.
Very well done, Rogier! Looking forward to hear more !

Wow, sounds wonderful!

That’s where I mostly left and jumped on another song I guess!
But lately trying to get better at songs I started and I like a lot.
I’d love to sit on some lake with Rogier, you, and all the other nice persons here in the thread with our guitars!

Hi Silvia @Silvia80
Thank you very much :grinning_face_with_big_eyes::smiling_face_with_sunglasses: and

also for this :joy:
You can’t just take the teacher out of the girl :see_no_evil_monkey:

Thanks, I forgot about that and I’ll listen to it again soon… :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

always always always :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: the only difficult thing about this song is that I heard a lot of versions 100+ times before I started this one… even before you-tube time and once a week I hear a version here from my own wife on the piano (while I type this she plays (practices) this behind me) …that do not help but that is oke ,i like ofcourse that she do this and ther will be a time we play together :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

The biggest thing I need to work on But this is a difficult problem, for me practicing guitar is primarily intended to exhaust my brain so that I fall asleep sooner, so in the morning I do my best, but in the afternoon well then things sometimes go to the south again

not with this one … and very often not, I often use Justin’s tabs with complicated or many loose notes or when I’m in a hurry, but usually I listen

and only look at the hands if I really can’t figure it out, but mostly listen to the teacher’s explanation when the ears fail… the last part where I used tabs (Final thumb Blues -Justin) I use it for about 2 days and then it is in my head …

Your wish is my command

Oooo Andrea @Helen0609 thank you …You paint a picture there :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Lago Di Garda ? :sun: Levico Terme was my and later our regular spot and we went to Lake Garda once a year (for 40 years), parked the car at Riva Del Garda and took the boat to various places around the lake… Oooo memories come back…
Too bad you don’t have any pictures of it  :joy:

Uh music … Thank you :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

Ow I really %$# :face_with_symbols_on_mouth: easy my #CENSURATO# ( hey did you that Silvia )

Will work on it again tomorrow or the day after…once again a door frame was too tight :see_no_evil_monkey:

I have counted the song that I am now trying to finish and that are open in the tabs 20 Twenty venti zwanzig :scream: and that’s just the tip of the iceberg…
But I must also immediately say that I have so many songs almost finished and not completely because if some of the bands that I and someone ask me to play with, there are a lot of songs that (if I put 100% effort) would also be finished in no time… apart from the mountain of songs that I have already finished and could play along after going through it once.

Super stuff Rogier. Clearly a lot of hours have gone into this one and it sounds like you’re going put a lot more into it.
Like @Helen0609 I too am on holiday. I’m in France again with the caravan. I enjoyed your piece on my earbuds whilst the aromas of other people’s lunchtime bbqs drift past. (I’ll be lighting mine this evening).

Now wouldn’t that be just fantastic!

I can’t let this moment pass without a photo of a shrub in the hedge of our pitch. I might try to take a cutting and bring it home with me. Probably illegal!

But but oke

then it’s nice , I actually wanted to ask Paul for something like that because he had an image… I wouldn’t do a tour like that if I got money for it (or it really has to be a lot, I’m not completely retarded :innocent:)

Hi Gordon @sairfingers

Thank you and yes, it will certainly take some hours spread over many months…
How nice that you are on holiday again, it’s really great that you do that so often and even better that you share this…looks amazing … :grinning_face_with_big_eyes: :sun:
live the good life :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

there is always a risk of creatures causing damage in your house or garden that you really don’t want…Ooo I know a story from friends of ours a few houses away in Italy, about 11 years ago, they had collected very beautiful pine cones and we were disappointed that we didn’t have them on the way to the Netherlands, eggs of some creature (can’t remember what) hatched and there were hundreds of them and the journey became a hell of a ride…
:scream:

I’m sitting inside now and the thermometer outside shows 12.3 degrees … the next few days it will easily be 30+ degrees with a possible 34c here

Amazingly lots fun :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: …and think of us

Outch! Get well soon!! Or, next time, try to hit the door with body parts you don’t need for guitar playing!!!

@sairfingers I wish you a nice holiday, old traveller! Love the pic with the guitar and the barbecue. You definitely know how to enjoy your life! Very nice guitar!

Hi again :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I really hope so, it feels like a second home… until I was 18 5 weeks a year and then 3 weeks until 11 years ago when I got really sick…

 :joy:  :joy:   :joy:
so glad my tea was finished …Oooo the joke of the year :joy: :joy:

Please just post one …I can of course keep you to myself, but I am sure that you will make more people happy with the beautiful waters and mountains of the lake and the atmosphere of Lake Garda …

I also have to look for photos myself have seen zero the last years, I have no idea where to start looking :grimacing:… but there is a painting of Lago Di Tobline in the bedroom ( one of here firstso only very nice for us) where, when we spent a day in Garda with friends of my parents, we stopped in the parking lot for coffee and cake and then another 25 minute drive, it is considered one of the most beautiful places in Trento… this was our view.

Don’t worry, I do that regularly too

Greetings and I look forward to the photos :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:
