The strangest guitar I've ever seen

cool ideas with the pickups but the ‘tone bars’ are a bit of snake oil in my humble opinion :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, I wish they’d have played it with nothing changed but the bars so we could hear it, since the guy said there was an obvious difference.

same thoughts here
I saw swappable and movable pickups in some other guitar with an open back somewhere, I think it was an italian maker…

And both guys look like the same person to me somehow (maybe it’s just me being a bit blind)

PS. couldn’t find the same guitar I refered to quickly now, but there are a few ones with modules to swap out pickups and at least one I’ve seen that slides the pickup also to the position you want. Could be interesting to try out…

PS2. Ah, that it was this one from Relish guitars, Switzerland, not Italy https://youtu.be/M_fqLR0dRTw?si=84HN9KiW7DN8zfMd looks a bit overengineered to me. But pickups only swappable. I have to have seen that slideable pickup design somehwre else then.

That’s unique. That’s for sure. A interesting idea even.
Doubt I’ll run right out and buy one though.

It is good to keep up with the times though. Thanks for sharing that interesting guitar with all here.

According to his web site (https://www.teuffel.com/) he only makes about 20 instruments a year and has a two-year waiting list. I’m guessing they’re pretty expensive.

I’ll just leave it here.

As for the pickups, there are and were plenty of models that allow hot swap, but while it sounds kinda cool, it seems like most people don’t actually need it.

Yeah he makes great videos; from tonewood to cabinet construction

I use his whole series to prove points now and then. it’s awersome.
Combine it with the findings of Glenn from SpectreSoundStudios and you’ll understand why it’s indeed speakers and amp that do the most.

There is a thing like crappy pickups though. not tone wise but build quality wise. besides that, decide the type and positions and it becomes hard to notice differences

I saw that guitar a few weeks ago at a boutique custom guitar exhibit in Dallas Texas. I’m not sure how much it was but there weren’t any guitars there for under $6000 :).

@metramaks
Fascinating. Conclusion: the sound is defined mainly by the pickups and the player, as long as there’s nothing stupidly wrong with the hardware.

Teufel guitars have a unique design, that’s for sure. This one’s been built since 2008 it seems.

Removing tonebars snakewood? Could be, but then again, i’ve read that John Mayer swears by a quarter sawn neck, not only for added stability, but also enhanced tone.

So i don’t know about that one. Has it been tested yet?

For me the hierarchy for sound importance on electric guitar is:

  1. Player
  2. Amp/speaker
  3. Modulation (pedals, fx)
  4. Pickups & strings
  5. ‘Tonewood’

The most recent issue of Living Blues magazine was focused on B.B. King (he would have turned 100 last month.) One of the guys who spent years in his band said you could hand B.B. any guitar, plug it into any amp, and he still sounded like B.B. King.

Tonewood right?
Right?

I’m disappointed he didn’t use a pick.

That would make it a pick axe.
(I’m sure he could play one of those too :pick:)
