I’m not a serious collector (whatever my wife may say), although I did work in the antiques trade for a while. It’s going to be very hard to value this as it’s rare (which doesn’t always mean valuable). It might have ticked up a little when Jeff passed, but it’s next to impossible to predict where it will go long term.
I would strongly advise you against buying as an investment. If you like it and have the money buy it, but don’t assume it will rise in value, or even hold it.
The other variable is what it ends up selling for. If it goes at the low end of the range then it might hold its value. If there’s a bidding war and the price soars then the risk goes up also. Given that Jeff has passed you’d be relying on some unpredictable event for interest in him to surge in the future. Nice looking guitar though
Great advice! Thanks all. If the David Gilmour collection is any indication, a 3,000GBP estimated value ended up selling for $100,000. Most likely this guitar will go for much higher than the estimated value. Not a game for mere mortals Thanks!
The one below is even better example.
Interesting to see where this one will end, I also think it will go significantly higher.
I wonder what the LA fires will do to classic guitar prices, a lot of very spendy guitars would have burned
Good point about the LA fires , Joe Bonamassa got nervous. I know Lee Ritanour lost his entire guitar collection in the 2018 fires.
Regarding the Mark Knofler collection, once you got past the $million strats and Gibsons there were actually some good deals. Christies charges a 26% commission over and above the hammer price.
26% is mad.
Tim Pierce done a video explaining he had time to evacuate his guitars but many others did not.
Don’t forget shipping, duties and VAT.
That was an excellent video! Thanks for sharing.
There’s a George Benson “store” on Reverb.
I’ve had a pop-up ad the last couple of weeks advertising George talking about the guitar he used to play “Breezin’”… it’s for sale & it’s only $999,999.00…
I doubt if that amount covers the sales tax…
I’ll stick to buying new or slightly used, thank you!
