Thumb & Finger 1

We’ll learn how to combine our thumb and first finger to add a new dimension to our playing. Full lesson here!

Does anybody do the following (or is it a dead-end technique that’s been tried but discarded): place the right hand in a fingerstyle position - i.e., stationary over the strings and (optionally) pinky on the sound board … then down-strum the bass strings with the flesh of the thumb (instead of picking out a single bass string) and up-strum the treble strings with the flesh of the index finger (instead of picking out a single treble string) … I’m able to get a nice accompaniment this way for singing softly (which is what I mostly do), but I don’t want to spend hundreds of hours on it if others have tried it and determined that it’s just another Bad Idea ™.
