Ultimate Guitar price increase

I have recently purchased it for the year as it was on an offer. I have to admit it’s been quite disappointing. I thought I would have been able to play the original while the app moves through the chords in sync like on Songsterr (but without the annoying popup). But no luck. The synthesised music on the pro tabs sounds quite bad but I will probably push through and see if I can get some value out of it.

I doubt I will be buying another year though unless this miracously impresses me.

I also considered to buy a yearly subscription to UG a while ago but have been confused by all the different options and prices that changed daily. I don’t like those ā€œsign up within 24h…18 hours left thingā€ and I read, that people obviously had troubles to cancel their pc years subscriptions, as this has been simply ignored by UG. So I had a look on other options.

What I use often now, is the mysongbook catalog of Guitar Pro which offers tabs and notation.
You can chose from different plans like monthly / 12 month / 24 moths plans, but you also can buy ā€œcreditsā€. one credit is € 2 = mostly one song (5 credits = € 8) so you don’t need to subscribe and you can buy song for song.

The tabs can be adjusted to show each instrument individually and can also be printed out for each instrument individually. GPs play along function also offers a choice of instruments to play along.
I think, the quality of tabs is pretty good. The only downside for me so far is, that the song catalog isn’t as extensive as UG’s, but it’s constantly growing (the catalog is visible on the website, so transparent beforehand)
I guess it’s worth a try and GP isn’t that expensive either…

Much like @Helen0609 I think the various UG options are designed to confuse. I did sign up to one of their options for a year and then continued to get bombarded with further subscription offers. There’s also the permanent sales that are always just about to end… it just says sleazy to me so they’ll be getting no more of my money

Fortunately I’d signed up via the Apple App Store so at least cancelling was hassle free.

I find it dishonest suggesting you’ll get a special price and then later, you can get the same price or in some occasions find it even cheaper.
I mean, that happens sometimes with market and price changes naturally, but here, it’s clear to them upfront.
I’m understanding when people don’t tell someone else the whole truth to not disappoint them or to avoid trouble, but really dislike when it’s to get someone else’s money.

I rarely use it, but on mobile devices, I bought the ā€œSongbookā€ from the ā€œSmartchordā€ App. One time payment, cheap. It gives you the functionality of the UG page like having the lyrics and chords (after the app searches the content on the web and lets you approve it)

And then, if you store the according songs on the device and tell the app where they are, you can also play along with the song at the same time as having the lyrics/chords scrolling with an adjustable delay before scrolling and adjustable speed.
Plus adjustable song speed!

Me too. I got a huge discount when I joined. I think it is worth the price to have the official tab versions along with other user-generated ones.

That’s what they want you to believe - you paid the correct price, there just happens to be some folks that get fleeced when they miss the always on ā€œspecialā€ discount

Yes, capitaliism is an untrustworthy bitch, but it’s the system we have…

Hi. I just want to add that my subscription expired today and they offered me the ā€œcome-backā€ option for 25 EUR/year. I have found the price acceptable and so I joined back in.

Yes 25€ is Ā£19.99 (approx) same as I paid as mentioned above. When divided by 365 the daily rate is tiny. Perhaps I was (we are) fussing over nothing.

I’m totally confused about UG now.
I currently have no subscription to UG but have always been able to print out basic (not pro) tabs for songs. Obviously, this option is no longer available as you can’t transform to pdf or print out any more without getting directely linked to the pro access (yearly subscription).
UG says, the yearly subscription is cross-plattform, when you sign up on Android, you can use UG on both, mobile devices and pc, wherever you log in.

The offer for a yearly subscription on Android currently is € 19,99 on my phone, but € 74,99 (!) when I check prices on pc.
I know, there are apps, where the desktop versions offer far more options than the app versions.
Does anybody know, if there is a difference between both? Has anybody used the Android version? Does the mobile option provide full service?

Yes it is.
You just find whatever (unofficial/not ā€˜pro’) version you like and it comes up.
Select with your mouse and copy. Paste into Word or whatever you use

@brianlarsen Thanks Brian, yes for sure, the copy/paste option still or always works as a ā€œzu FuĆŸā€ tool, but there was that handy printing option, when you clicked ā€œprintā€ at the bottom of the tab. The option was just very helpful, as it allowed you to e.g. adjust the font size quickly to get it on one or two sheets, without any additional formatting. On top it looked better than a copied word version or screen-shotted version and was faster to get.
I understand, one can’t have everything for free and I’m willing to pay for what I use, but I don’t understand their pricing as all those prices seem to be a bit random.

I use the free one…

ā€œhey Hermine, I want that song printedā€.

and then around half past six it is here on the table… works very easily

Greetings

Dear Rogier, I used the free one too , but the easy print isn’t working any more (tell me, if your wonderful Hermine knows a secret…). It has been just one click…, but now, that klick leads to the pro option behind the paywall. (Others in www noticed that too). As I already said, I have basically no problem with paying for what I use, but I don’t want to sign up subscription after subscription, especially, when I see those different prices??

Ha ha :joy: …you are already making me do more work than that if I want 20 prints :joy:

I can ask if she also puts one in an envolope every now and then and sends it to you… then your version will consist of much more because then you have to type ā€œhey Roger, I want that songā€ā€¦

But I am now asking if she knows a shortcut/one click

That is certainly undesirable here too :grimacing:

To be more precise :joy:: apart from Justin’s subscriptions where I know it’s always good value for money, I’m a bit hesitant…

Hey I just received an app and see typed literally …

ā€œHermine`s free pringting has been cancelledā€ …

 and in the next app in Dutch … ā€œcrxp it has changed and now I have to cut and paste and you just put 2 standards … or be extra sweet then I put it on 1 A4 sheet of paperā€

Well, indeed, with Justin, I never thought I would ever do something like that, I have 2 subscriptions with Justin…
I sometimes really like the tab, I still used it this morning, the theory has been just a sponsorship for quite a long time…

Too bad Ultimate Guitar changed it :grimacing:… glad nothing changed for me … well Yeah, maybe give an extra kiss in the morning :innocent:

Ah, you see, I always have to edit it anyway-
I like to put the chords exactly where I want to sing them in the lyrics. UG is pretty bad at placing them correctly over the line and they often l omit repeated bars if the chord doesn’t change. It makes the songs much easier to learn like that.
So if I’m editing anyway, I’d never click ā€˜print’ from the page. I pay enough in cookies
I’m impressed with the Dutch solution though :open_mouth:
