There was a request on my NGD post about my PRS S2 Special for a demo of how it sounds. So I’ve thrown together a quick demo of Shocking Blue’s Venus (SoundCloud link) where all of the sounds originate from the new guitar, recorded through my Katana amp (except the one acoustic track).
It’s got
Rhythm Right: Acoustic recording of the semi-hollow
Rhythm Left: Electric recording neck pickup, Katana clean channel setting
Lead, bass, and one little transition bit with various guitar settings and Katana effects.
Sounds great David!
I love it when folks demo their new instruments. Thanks.
Love that song too!
I like to watch a couple different versions of shocking blue do that one. Great choice of a tune to demo your new guitar on.
Ya did good on the intro too. Not a easy rhythm to replicate and get it right imho. Good job on that.
Thanks. Among the other tracks on my SoundCloud, A Splash of Red is effectively a demo of my BMG Special.
I’ve always thought Venus was a great song. Working from the official tab on Ultimate Guitar it wasn’t terribly hard to pick up the rhythm part. The solo would take me a fair bit more effort.
It really is (although I wish they made it easier). I opened the in an incognito window to see what you’re seeing. If you click the X in the upper right hand corner, the login / create account prompt goes away and you can play the track.
Is that a mobile app? Most of my experience w/SoundCloud is via the website where (as I described above) you can listen without an account. Maybe loading the link in a mobile web browser would get you there.
I hadn’t realized my use of SoundCloud was going to be problematic. Maybe I should start posting to somewhere like YouTube instead (will be a very boring video!).
@GrumpyMac, @sairfingers: per advice elsewhere in the community, I’ve edited the post to be a direct link to SoundCloud, so should be easy-peasy now. Thanks for letting me know that what I did wasn’t the best approach.
Sound Cloud is one I now avoid. I had about a 2 year absence due to illness, came back and checked my SC account. It was there and all of my songs were deleted.
In addition, others I have known have used it for years and then ran out of space. So you then have a dilemma. You they have to pay or find another hosting site.
If you want a free hosting site, you could open a Gmail account and get 15GB of space for free. That should keep you going a while.
Venus - Boy, I had not heard that for years. Good go if it and nice job. Your PRS tones were good, but I think with time you can do better.
I started on SoundCloud years ago for reasons I no longer recall. If you look at my profile there you’ll see I’m a very low volume publisher, so I never really worried about running out of space. If that happens I’ll delete old stuff. A Gmail for music seems a reasonable idea +/- those who are leery of Google stuff (although YT seems nearly universally acceptable). I’ll keep thinking about it.
I’ve always really liked that song. Coming back to it for this led me to the Bananarama cover version, which is interesting, especially the live version. There’s a video of Shocking Blue performing it where the guitarist is playing a very interesting instrument that I think is a Danelectro Longhorn although the current version I can find at Sweetwater looks a bit different. I played a modern Danelectro '59M NOS+ at a local store and it’s a pretty cool guitar (that I don’t actually need).
