NGD - My first PRS

I’ve been considering a PRS for a while and these S2 Specials with reclaimed wood really caught my attention. I’ve spent an hour or so with it so far and it feels and sounds great. I’m looking forward to getting into the music room running through the Katana. Right now I’d envision this as my last guitar purchase as I’ve got a versatile group of instruments and rack space limitations are becoming very real; can you say wall hanger?

Enjoy! I got a PRS for myself for my birthday this summer, and it’s become my favorite guitar. So playable right out of the box!

Hi David,
Happy NGD :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

That looks amazing ,I wish you a lot of time together :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

I often think about the time 6 years ago of having my first PRS in my hands and making it my 2nd PRS now :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:(but it was so expensive that I still can’t justify it to myself today)

Greetings

Beatiful guitar you got there. Congratulations…
But this being your last one… yeah right… We’ve all been there…

Happy NGD David!

Famous last words! :joy::joy:

I love that guitar manufacturers are paying attention to their supply chain this way and more and more are seeking to use more responsible sourcing.

I saw when this guitar was announced and liked it right away (especially since the finish doesn’t hide the wood). That said, the particular source of wood they chose for it didn’t ā€œspeakā€ to me. I had something else in mind and decided to build it. It’s my birthday/christmas/cancerversary present to myself.

Very nice, happy NGD!

Lovely guitar David, enjoy your time together.

I love natural finishes and most of my guitars show their wood grain. I’m especially fond of my Ibanez zebrawood semi-hollow. I’ve only built one guitar, from a StewMac kit, and TBH my MechE wife did a lot of work, particularly on the finish. Having done it once I’m in the mode of ā€œwould rather play a guitar than build oneā€. I’m also now curious what sources do speak to you and what you have / are planning to build.

@TheCluelessLuthier & @GrytPipe There are others that do call to me. I recently played a Danelectro at my local store and would happily have one in their super cool (to me) orange flake finish. But I’m not a performer and I really do have a nice versatile collection of instruments, meaning there’s no need. So I (mostly) expect to be able to hold the line. OTOH my wife is nicely supportive so nothing is certain. And I understand the number of guitars you need is ā€œone more than you currently ownā€.

Its a beautiful guitar

I hope you ll record something to allow us to hear how it sounds

Happy NGD

@dlemire60 , that looks really nice! I noticed that the neck humbucker is installed ā€œbackwardsā€, like the Peter Green Les Paul. Very interesting!

It’s one of those intensely personal things, right? As for me, I have a general interest in local materials, sustainable forestry/sourcing (which is why the reclaimed wood aspect of this PRS interests me), and something with a story/history. For this guitar I’m building, I’ve covered the local materials and the story aspects of my interests. And for this, I was really focused on the story of how Helene impacted my area last year.

I’ve got a build thread going for my guitar over here:

Electric guitar build diary - maybe I’ll come up with a name for it eventually - Gear & Tools Talk / :guitar: Guitars, Instruments & Maintenance - JustinGuitar Community

Ah. I’d noticed that thread but haven’t really dived into it. I’ll take a closer look.

Happy NGD David!!!
That PRS is certainly beautiful!!! I’m looking forward to hearing you play it for the Community!!! I’m hoping that you truly enjoy the tones you’ll get & that you love the fabulous PRS playability!!!

So sorry to hear this… I waffled for too long… had a zebrawood Ibanez in my wishlist at Musician’s Friend for about a year after seeing you play yours. Finally decided to get one only to find that they’ve been discontinued… total bummer!
Then, I see you have a new guitar!!!
Hate to admit it but my 1st thought wasn’t being happy for you…
No, my FIRST THOUGHT was ā€œMaybe David is going to sell the Ibanez!!!ā€ :smiling_face_with_horns:
So sorry, I should have just been really happy for a fellow Community member!
BUT…
Any chance that you ARE thinking of selling???
:folded_hands:
At any rate…
Congratulations, David & Merry (early) Christmas!!! :santa_claus:t2:

I’m hate to disappoint but, no, that one is definitely not going on the auction block. I’ve no idea how readily you could find a used one. I bought that one from my local music store 5 years ago and felt fortunate they had one I could try out. I think I was at it an hour or so before I realized how much time I spent (that was the same trip where the Katana amp came home).

ATM I’ve got a half-dozen 6-string electrics and no real thought to sell any of them. I know many people buy and sell guitars frequently but that’s never really been my thing.

Stunning guitar! Enjoy!

I’m completely sympathetic David. I’ve never sold a guitar yet… given a couple away to family members… one fell over & broke the neck (more expensive to get it fixed than I paid for it) but I think of each guitar as my child & have a very hard time even considering selling one!
My wife has hinted that I have a gift coming that doesn’t fit under the Christmas tree :christmas_tree:… but I’m pretty certain that it’s not going to be a zebra :zebra: wood Ibanez!!! She’s seen me checking out ES-335s & ES-355s so I will have to wait & see I guess!!!

If you ever change your mind, hit me up!
