We mourn the loss of Mari

Been sitting here listening to Mari’s extensive catalog in her LL.
Figured she wouldn’t mind me sharing a link

Oh damn, I wasn’t ready for this :frowning:

Mari had a lot of fans and she was the fan of many.
Her warm and authentic feedback on our avoyp clips and videos always brought me smiles.

I’m grateful she was a part of this wonderful community and everything she did.

Thanks Mari, you were a true, warm heart of this lovely bunch

Such sad news. Mari was a member of the ā€˜old forum’ when I joined in 2018. She was one of those who welcomed me there and was one of the people I could always rely on to comment with genuine support when I posted an Avoyp.
She came across as a warm and friendly person who cared about our Community and the music we all try to create.
My deepest condolences to Krista and all her family and friends in Canada.
RIP Mari.

Such very sad news. Mari was among those so welcoming and encouraging to me in my early days here. The ethos of the community shone through her; such a lovely, warm lady. She is a tragic loss to the community.

Fly high Mari.
May all the love and stars and colours of the universe surround you forever. :purple_heart:

What a huge loss. She was such a kind spirit, always supportive and friendly. Lots of wisdom and insight in her comments. She had some good guitar chops and a creative sense of musicality. One of a kind, a true original. I will wrap up with this quote having some back and forth a few times about Gordon Lightfoot:

ā€œI never try to imitate what other people are doing. I want to be original and authentic.ā€ – Gordon Lightfoot

Mari was friend to many over many, many years, in the original JustinGuitar forum and in this new Community forum. She was a true supporter of the JustinGuitar Open Mic events. She performed at many, including most of the early events when we first started. If not performing, Mari was in the audience supporting and encouraging others. She had booked a seat in the audience for the coming ā€˜first-timers’ Open Mic. Sadly, her seat will not be taken and her presence will be missed.
Just as Rick visited Mari’s Learning Log to rewatch some of Mari’s recordings, I have gone into the Open Mic archives to find her live performances across the years. I think they are worth placing together, here, in remembrance and celebration.

Open Mic 01 in March 2021 performing Far From Me & I Remember Everything:

Livestream 01 in May 2021 performing The Man Who Sold The
World:

Open Mic 06 in February 2022 performing Ain’t Even Done With The Night:

Performing WIld Horses, with Krista, at Open Mic 07 in April 2022:

Open Mic 08 in May 2022, with Krista, performing Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out:

Open Mic 10 in August 2022 performing 59th Street Bridge Song & What A Wonderful World:

Open Mic 15 in April 2023 performing It Must Have Been Love:

Open Mic 26 in September 2024 playing Here Comes The Sun (ukulele):

Although I didn’t know or have any interaction with Mari as far as I know, this is still sad news. Cancer is a horrible thing. My condolences to her family.

Mari was a wonderful human. We had at least two one-on-one lessons together and she was great fun. She was full of spirit and joy and had a really wonderful energy about her - and an infectious positivity. I knew she’d been battling illness for some time, but very sad to hear that she’s now moved on to the unknown. RIP Mari.

I’m so sorry to hear of this. Had no idea she was fighting illness. Yes, Mari has been with us since the old forum. She has been a very special friend ever since. She provided helpful comments and support to the Justinguitar Community. Condolences to all her family and friends.

What a shock. So sad.

Mari was always so welcoming and warm. She was a regular at the OMs and a long time community member. An authentic personality that encouraged others. Rest in peace.
