We mourn the loss of Mari

This is sad news. I went back to view some of her learning log and most of her activity was before I started. I did appreciate her kind and encouraging words posted with one of my earlier AVOYPs in 2023. Her OM performances and AVOYP Slow Blues Studies will also be on my watch list in the future. The community will miss her but it is good that she has left a permanent presence in the community.

I can’t say anything that hasn’t been expressed already. RIP Mari, you will be missed. Condolences to her family and friends.

RIP Mari. You inspired me with your blues fingerstyle studies  The sound quality of your recording are always top-notch and your playing is great. You will be remembered positively

RIP Mari. You had many friends and well wishers here. I well remember her comments and encouragement when I first started my guitar journey with this community in 2021. :folded_hands:t3:

Oh this is such sad news! I only ā€œmetā€ her once on my open mic debut - she was so kind and encouraging.

Thank you for placing a banner. It is very respectful and a solid way of letting the community know. It is appreciated. I think this is a nice way to memorialize a important member of the community.

While I didn’t have any direct interactions with Mari, I did read a number of her replies and I watched a number her performances. Her open mic performance of Nirvana’s redo of David Bowie ā€œMan Who Sold the Worldā€ was really inspirational for me to post one of my very first videos. A Nirvana video from the same live performance.

She was always so positive and very helpful to others.

Thank you Mari for that Inspiration. :folded_hands:t2::heart:

Also thank you OP, Lieven and the other mods for giving me a place to put this.

Absolutely devastated by this news, God I will really miss her presence on the forum and the music she was sharing with us. She was a fantastic musician, very modest, and she did share with me individually some really constructive feedback on my performances. We also played chess online quite a few times and she always managed to woop my bum (to be fair I am a really poor chess player)!

Anyway, rest in peace Mari, I hope you found a place even more peaceful and musical if thats even possible. :frowning:

Richard thank you for sharing past performances, God that Man who sold the world got even Justin gobsmacked.

I’m so sad to hear this, it’s a shame that it’s taken so long for me to find it, life gets in the way sometimes and I have had a really hard and busy couple of weeks.
This has just knocked me for six, Mari was such a lovely talented woman, I really feel for Krista and Mari’s family and friends, it must have been playing on their minds for a while. I’m sorry, at the moment I just can’t say anything else, it’s a case of the reality of it has hit me hard :face_holding_back_tears::smiling_face_with_tear:

Many wanted messages of condolence to be shared with Krista.

Just to let you know that I shared a link to this topic with her. She was most grateful and appreciative for all the messages, and the wonderful memories of Mari.

I did not realize we lost Mari until just a few minutes ago when I saw the banner on her passing. Loss, indeed! I always enjoyed her posts and the insight she offered on the old forum and new community.

I am a little older than Mari was and it is sad to see such wonderful and talented folks leave us so soon. You are and will be missed Mari, for sure!

I hope all the best for any family you have and all the friends you have made over the years. I also thank you for leaving us part of your legacy on here in song and contributions.

I think that is one cool thing about music. It can transcend the tough times and losses we go through and brings us to a place of enjoyment while listening.

My next stop is to listen to the collab with Toby. For in that, Mari lives on, in a special way.

Sigh,
LBro

As a newcomer in the community, I can’t say that I knew Mari, but … But preparing myself for the OM32 - that she had planned to attend - I had a look on some past OM’s, and amongst all, I noticed and loved immediately her kindness, her smile and her humble talent. I didn’t know her, but as strange as it may be … I miss her. :candle: :candle: :candle:

Huge loss for this community. Frailty of life always there. Not so many interactions with Mari but very nice ones. Kind and humble comments received from her. I had a chance to check some of her recordings. Good stuff there. My condolences to Krista and everyone who she was part of their life.

Very sad news to hear and thank you for sharing the news with us. We lost a family member and my sincere condolences to her family. I just lost my mom unexpectedly on June 2nd so definitely can relate to the feelings of grief.

My heartfelt condolences to you and your family.
I’ve lost my dear mum in February, and it still hurts so much.

Hoping and wishing that music can offer you some comfort and solace.
