Me neither, and I was 26 in 1975.
Craig. @CD02
I hope you mean “Rolling Stones”
Michael
Go @Lisa_S and get the 12-string going!
Love it when lots of people work on the same song and then share their version at their level, so I am in
Haven’t played this song in a while, but I have played a lot at times. Just like I listend to it a lot when growing up. Learned it quite early on in my guitar journey. My guitar teacher at the time wrote the structure out by hand on a tab sheet. then asked me to transcribe it and lateron fixed up the result of my attempt. I think I still have those notes somewhere … I’ll share if I can find them in time.
Silvia @Silvia80
You seem surprised about my lack of knowledge of Pink Floyd music, let me explain.
I started to listen to music in the early 60’s when I was barely ten so started to listen to Beatles, Rolling Stones and all the 60’s bands. As I got older into the late 60’s and early 70’s tended towards bands like Cream and Jethro Tull, then moved into music like Eagles and the 80’s bands such as Dire Straits and Eurythmics. By mid-90’s I lost interest in contemporary music and listened to my back catalogue. So I never got interested in heavy rock bands such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeplin Black Sabbath etc. Hope this gives some explanation. It wasn’t until I started learning guitar four years ago that became aware of a lot of bands and music that had just passed me by.

What a privilege for Justin to be invited by Pink Floyd, indeed! Further proof that he’s doing many things right.
I just posted my performance.
I’m assuming we don’t need to post the video here as well.
Hey Jon,
This was excellent. I knew from watching you perform on open mics, that your voice would be perfect for Wish You Were Here. I was not disappointed. Great work.
Hi Jim - that’s very kind of you to say that - its such a great song and i’d love to give it another go but i don’t think i would have time to improve much on it before the deadline (working on 2 songs for the OM night in a few weeks), and some of the performances posted so far are fabulous and definitely in a different league.
Hey Jon, I say go for it. You gotta be in it to win it. Even if you don’t, it’ll be great to see your video in there with the others. I’m looking forward to the open mic again. I’m not at the point I think I could perform live. Maybe one day.
One question I have, maybe Fanny @FannyJustinGuitar or maybe Laryne @larynejg can answer: It seems you added all the existing performances of WYWH to the new lesson, right? Can we still add an “update”, though? If not, no worries, then I will annoy the community. ![]()
Yes absolutely! ![]()
Great, thank you, Fanny! ![]()
Here is a clip may be usefull to pratctice level 2. It loops automaticly, you can play along with, and even slow down if you need to:

Thank you @witkatz
That’s super helpful! Thanks for sharing it ![]()
and on the older lesson, someone linked a David Gilmour video where you can see the artist himself playing… here it is
Good find. At 0:45 Gilmore leaves his middle finger anchored on the E string and uses his index finger to fret the A and D strings. This is different to how Justin teaches it and to how I have been playing it.
I wonder if there’s any advantage to playing it that way?
Here’s my dilemma -
I want to post a video of Wish You Were Here, ideally with the vocals as well … but I have two choices:
- Just play the tune without the singing
or
- Put a capo on the 2nd fret and then I can sing it. I don’t have quite the right range for the normal key. It’s just going to sound a bit strange in a different key compared to all the other recordings. Also, I always feel that my guitar sounds more like a ukulele than I guitar when I play it with a capo - (no offence to any ukulele players intended).
Number two please, Bob! ![]()
We all know what WYWH sounds like and have heard PF/David Gilmour sing it countless times.
I want to hear Ian’s version!
Tbh, I would find just another well-played intro +/- the whole song strumming a tad boring…
Whilst Justin goes to pains to teach it as accurately as possible, he often advocates adding your own touch to songs, rather than slavishly copying.
Apart from everything else, people do realise this is a ‘lottery’, with a random winner rather than a competition with prizes, don’t they?
Thank you for the clip Withold, I just shared it with my WhatsApp. I’m now working just on level 1, but just a few elements from level 2 I might be able to add without difficulty (the bass notes and strumming in the last two bars) …
let’s see…I’ll follow Justin’s suggestion to have level 1 really solid before moving on.
Well, I wouldn’t find it boring if it were me being able to play it, whole song, strumming through from start to finish
…that would be defined as a real proper Miracle ![]()
@Prof_Thunder it’s not a competition…it’s a party! All levels are welcome! I think I’ll be nailing just Level 1 and that’s ok, as I’m learning it for the first time!
P.S.:You need to record just the intro for the Challenge.
