Western (cover-ish 😉)

After sharing the Wormhole collab last week (a Swiss song by Züri West ), I decided to revisit one I started some months ago, Western by Stiller Has , another Bernese band. I hadn’t been happy with the vocals, bass and mix in general. Tor wasn’t enthused by the song, and when the bass he provided had some persistent clicking sound issues, I didn’t have the heart to ask him to re-record, so used the bass I had isolated from the original with Moises .
All finished today though, and good enough is good enough

Lyrics

Me and you, we got the same tattoos
But this town ain’t big enough for me and for you
If you draw faster, you get the girl… the fame and all the gold
But if I bite the dust, don’t want no one asking what I want
Don’t want no fancy headstone on boot hill, just a simple wooden cross
Sand’s running through my fingers. Can you feel death’s breath, Django

We’ve ridden far too long together, through cowpats, snow and dust
Now you’re standing in my sun. The west is wild. The east is rust
You’re always faster on the draw, but I- I hit my mark
Two peacemakers blaze in the dawn, and they light up the dark
Now the vultures are circling and you’re on your last ride
Your few dollars long spent. Wind whistles across the plains

The western’s over, rain pissing from above
Never did have to draw my colt to defend that burning love
My mustang’s just a bicycle and my colt a banana
And West Kirby ain’t the Mojave Desert and the Mersey’s not the Rio Grande
Tomorrow I’m back at the abattoir. Ankle deep in blood
It was only a movie and the wind still sings of death

I was always a cowboy and a cowboy I’ll remain
My whole life herding cattle in my brain
Yodel-ay-ee-ay

For the (few) purists out there, I even did a version in the original Bernese dialect, which feels strange, as I now speak it with ZĂźrich/Schwyzer dialect
Enjoy

I truly enjoyed that! Is there anything you can’t do?

Ha ha Brian ,
I liked this, good text   :sunglasses:… at the end of the video I expected images from your own environment that also appear in your text with an image of Yourself instead of the cool Clint Eastwood  … this style of singing suits you well :sunglasses:

ps: such a shame that I didn’t continue to practice a certain thing … even though it was actually intended for DavidP the first time … busy busy busy :see_no_evil:

Play guitar properly!
Thank you. Worth it, even if only one person enjoys it

@roger_holland
Cheers, Rog.
You think I’m going to put my mugshot up there alongside the Good and the Bad?…
The translation is largely true to the original, but as you noticed, personalised in places, as no English person would know where the Aare or Bahnhofsplatz is…
Hans gave me a hard time for switching the Sonora to the Mohave Desert because it went better with Mersey. Sheesh!

That was even better than the English version, Brian! Just großartig!

I truly enjoyed both versions, the English one was easier to understand (), but the Bernese was more authentic. As always, the choice of video material was just great and suiting the tune very well. Great overall production and most entertaining, as usual.

Lars did some nice lead work, very enjoyable. You nailed the vox as well, the mood and vibe of the tune were delivered on point, at least for me.

Wondered why this popped in my YT feed, didn’t realise it was the slightly mad Danish mongrel !! Man that was fantastic Brian, new to me but the production was really good mix wise as was the playing and singing. You are really upping your game in the studio.

Now I am going to revisit my youth and hunt down some classic spag Westerns, that super video collage has whetted by appetite for a bit of Eli Lee and Clint, maybe a bit of Hill and Spencer.

You’ve brought back some memories with this one, ta muchly.

Vielen Dank Lisa
Two thumbs ups from two Teutonic speakers is almost too much!
but makes my day
I was pleased to see Hans (who’s often too critical about his drumming) shared that version with a good friend in Bern.

Give me time, mon ami… I haven’t been around for quite as long as you but am working on the next level
Ta for the seal of approval.
Yes, Johnny Weismuller as Tarzan, cowboy John Wayne, spaghetti westerns and Hill & Spencer were this boy’s cultural highlights back in Beirut.
Happy daze

That was awesome Brian! both versions. Very entertaining as always
You are indeed multi-talented! :sunglasses:

Tremendous, Brian, you and the posse did ever so well, playing, singing, mixing plus can’t go wrong with a series of clips from those three movies.

@TheMadman_tobyjenner Hill and Spencer can be amusing in the slapstick western mode, but I might opt for Once Upon a Time in the West. The opening sequence is something else. And Bronson with his harmonica is classic

Ooh! Quite enjoyable, Brian. I enjoyed the original version too in whatever dialect that was. So what is your native language and what other languages can you speak? Incredible!

A cracking film Mr P !

2 Brians for the price of 1.
I’ll see your classic Hollywood and Spaghetti Westerns and add in to the mix:

A Fistful Of Travellers’ Cheques.

Ha Brian,
First, we have to get a couple of things out of the way so I can proceed to my comments on your wonderful creation and offering…

  • You crack me up mate… “Video used without permission”. - Honesty in words, at its finest!
  • There is enough firepower shown here to stop an army! But if I recall from a while back on my post of “They call me Ace”. You seemed to feel firing a couple missiles from a jet plane was uncouth. Frankly I don’t see an issue with either one. But I figured I had to bring it due to a seeming contradiction?

With the above out of the way I want to say this is one of your better productions and I enjoyed it fully. It meshed well with the uh, “borrowed” video. No problems with that on my end as I uh, do it all the time as well… Is not Internet sharing a grand deal?

You Larsen’s do indeed have a lot of talent and I enjoy your productions. This one is near the top of the pile IMHO. Well done and keep up the good vibe. You sure have come a long ways from your simpler days and the kind comments here are well deserved!

Be well,
LB

12 points for you LBro I thought almost exactly the same thing and also with the commentary on your video back then  …And I also wanted to mention that for an outspoken pacifist this was a lot of violence,
but gave him a ‘get out of my comment’ card :innocent: …thanks for bringing this up

(and now I fear his reply  )

Greetings

Yeah, me too…
But then again, what is a few missals between friends?

Another great Larson family production Brian and very entertaining as always. I love spaghetti westerns so the video was right up my street. There must be so much work required to coordinate these family/friends productions. Well done my friend.

@Avalon426 Thank you so much Jasmine. Much appreciated

@DavidP I couldn’t help but think of you putting this together-
Every time I shifted a video clip a little box popped up saying ‘The Good, The Bad & The Ugly’
@pkboo3 Thanks Pam, always a treat to have you drop in
I’m pretty fluent in English & German (and Swiss dialect). Reasonable French, smatterings of Danish, Italian & Spanish. Oh, and some Latin memories from school
I do love words and language though.

For all those Once Upon a Time in the West proponents, I did not wish for Claudia Cardinale to distract from my art.

@Richard_close2u
Bog off!
(Loved the Comic Strip. I was hoping this was going to be a spoof song, but will watch the full shebang later)

@LBro
First, I have to get something out of the way, so I can proceed to my comments on yours & @roger_holland’s complaints…
Thank you for dropping by, listening, watching, commenting and being so positive about the production. Very generous

Haha, love it- a bit of a debate…
I agree with you wholeheartedly, Brother,
I was brought up in a Yank school in the 60’s. Our entertainment consisted of WWII, Cowboys & Indians, and Cops & Robbers. My brothers and I collected knives, made our own bows and arrows, and played with real functioning Afghani flintlock rifles. I nearly joined the Irish Army in the early 90s.
How did I turn out to be such a well-balanced, committed pacifist?
Simple:
Rational, consistent thought. (It helps a lot when you have children that you have to explain how the world works to!)
I do enjoy dark/negative subject matter in art (mine included). The Devil, death, drugs, murder etc. pop up quite often. That doesn’t mean I approve of them.
I vaguely recall the incident you’re referring to, but I am guessing I perceived it as an admiration of military force/potential which I find problematic, esp. when being suggested as solutions to current disagreements.
These spaghetti gunfight scenes (although authentically intended at the time), now appear to me as almost comical slapstick.
Thanks for the ‘slack’ Rogier, but this non-packin’-cowpoke is a pachyderm .

Apologies for re-iterating the obvious, Brother, but Dutchy sometimes struggles with the lingo and may not have picked up your excellent word-play on missals (google it if necessary)

Ah, look who popped up as I was composing my reply…
My good friend @sairfingers
Now there’s a straight-talkin’, strait-shootin’ dude, if I ever saw one!
Much obliged, Hombre!

But we shan’t enter into a debate as to who earns which monicker. Unless it refers specifically to guitar playing, in which case I’ll grab ‘The Bad’ and leave you ‘The Ugly’ which I mean in the nicest kind of way. I can say this suitably tongue-in-cheek since reasonably fair to say neither of us would dare to claim ‘The Good’

And indeed your audience
