Itās been a while since I did a Four Larsens and a Goldring production
This is one that Chris chose (with little enthusiasm from our 'bandā ).
Itās by ZĆ¼ri West from Switzerland (Chris worked there for a year) Loch dĆ¼r Zyt (Hole in Time) is mainly spoken word in Bernese dialect and needed translation. I call it Wormhole.
Dublin brother Hans was unimpressed as the drums required a machine-generated disco-beat.
Cousin Lars in Copenhagen had bought himself a Katana and Reaper. There was a fair bit of Zoom/emailing to and fro to get his contribution.
I was impressed by Chrisā ability to play a single note continuously throughout almost the whole song
My son Tor eventually warmed to the tune, providing a funky bass line, faithful enough to the original for the first half, but going a little āoff-pisteā toward the end. I also persuaded him to do a sax solo to go along with Larsā guitar work, which he did a fine job of. (He only started this year. I think his interest in jazz makes an appearance toward the end).
I lifted the dancing scene from The Hairdresserās Husband. Gotta love French movies.
āNuff said-
Enjoy

Video from āThe Hairdresserās Husbandā by Patrice Leconte
Weāre chewing up a hole through time, trudging through our tasks A hole that goes down and down, on rollercoaster tracks We dream of castles in the sky, our boat is coming in Until you lose all sense of time, Iāll rule this world with sin This town is too hot for me, summer in the streets Melt into the shadows, fade into the heat I stare out of my window, the sun sinks in the sea And my lonely heartā¦ it beats and beats
I lie awake in bed at night, my guilt wonāt let me sleep So much I donāt understand, oh conscience let me be Next morning on the same commute, train is kinda crammed Sunshine on the radio, but I canāt feel no warmth And sometimes I think back And sometimes I think of you And my lonely heart just beats and beats and beats and beatsā¦
Hi Brian,
Iāve had a great time listening , I enjoyed the song and the video was a wonderful addition ,that man makes me smile ā¦ the saxophone and the guitar solo were unfortunately not a good combination for meā¦
now Iām really need going to start working on the blim unit4 , this forum is too much of a distraction at the momentā¦
Haha, I was bracing myself for your disapproval of the visualsā¦
The last time I put song to a French movie dance scene, you were āreservedā (even though the timing was better). Itās the kind of dancing Iād like to aspire to
I understand your reservations re the sax and guitar, but I like the contrast between the very simple first half and ābusierā instrumental outro. (Maybe also because Iām his Dad )
The sooner you guys finish that blim thing the betterā¦
We can get back to ānormalā here
That was an interesting and entertaining listen, Brian!
Your collab always comes up with some really surprising tunes. The song and the video worked together really well for me, great choice.
Even though I get the idea of the contrast of main part being musically more simple with regards to arrangement, and the busy outro, I would have preferred to have both solo parts coming seperately. Not because it sounded odd (it still sounded nice), but because I would have loved to have both instrumental parts having their time to shine! It was not that easy following either the one or the other, but both would have deserved that.
Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable listen and the overall production was good as always. It was about time for The Larsens and a Goldring - hope the next one wonāt take that long.

Ooo, you made me search , and when I read my comment again, I should have approached much more that I really think that video was/is great (it just made me happy again (it could also be because of that beautiful lady ), it is the counteracting rhythm that was messing with me while they where dance to your music (in my head) ) ā¦All unnecessary explanations, I know
oh do you think so
I cant wait to ā¦ and then continue practicing hard for 3 years with those lessons and then back to normal ā¦
Whatās not to like ?
Great production, and one cannot fail to see the effort put into this project: a nod to the editor who pulled it all togetherā¦
Well done guys ā¦
Cheers, for the listen and thumbs up, @Eddie_09
Thereās no doubt that these take up more time and effort, but this particular one was quicker than most. The ācrewā required very little cajoling and I took a fair few shortcuts using the āgood enough is good enoughā mantra
Vielen Dank @Lisa_S
I hear you on the keep 'em separated line, but that would have required lengthening the song with everyone having to rerecord their parts or me spending hours, cutting, pasting, editingā¦
As I mentioned to Rogier, Iām probably too close to it, but when I listen repeatedly, the ābusynessā grows on me
I have another one in the pipeline, but not really going the way I want. Weāll see.
Good morning to you too @roger_holland.
You definitely shouldnāt be wasting your time looking up old clipsā¦
Have a good (or blue?) day
Cheers @Richard_close2u
The young fella did well with his funky line, eh?
Who said disco is dead?
Thanks for the listen and @Elixir1253
Much appreciated
Wow, I really liked it!
I have to admit I didnāt listen to the lyrics all the time, but the video captured my attention too much. Will have to relisten. The video went so well with the song and I always loved that actor (who looks like my father by the way).
Hope Iāll be able some day soon to put something similar together too, even half as good would be fine.
I have lots of bits, but never finished a song
And that why Iād never visit a coiffure over here !!
Well that was worth the long walk over from Village BLIM, see what was going on in the City. What a wonderful family Larsen collaboration (if he likes it or not Chris is family !!).
Great song choice, exceptional playing by all involved and super BL vox. Audio mixing and production really up there and the choice of supporting video was a gem. Though I may have to lay down in sympathy for the traumatised garcon.
Above and beyond, Jasmine!
You should check out the original- Fab Arabic music. In fact, I must rewatch the film to see if it stands the test of timeā¦
Vielen Dank Dominique
Believe me, if you plug away and put in the practice thereās no limit to what you can do.
You donāt even have to do it by yourself. In time youāll get to know folk in the Community who are happy to advise/help out/collaborate
you have no idea-
The film starts out with his memories of having been ātraumatisedā by having to wear a knitted woolen bathing cossie with pompoms, which gave him terrible ābaw-rashā
Indeed she is.
She should have crossed the border into Germany today, which puts her past the 1/2 way mark, as I see it.
For those wondering what the āMad Oneā is referring to-
My youngest daughter, Edith (22), decided to head back to Berlin a couple of weeks ago.
on a bicycle
by herself
sleeping in a tent on the roadside
Not to mention she has no accommodation when she gets thereā¦
Come to think of it @domi7, if you hear of any WG or room available in the Berlin area, send me a message, please?
@LBro
My Brother, should you ever decide to descend upon us, I shall put the project together and weāll be āin your faceā as much as you wish!
Kidding aside, appreciate you dropping by, listening and commenting.
Take care
A bit late to the party here, but that was a super enjoyable listen and watch!
Your crew sounds great together. I was impressed with Larsā lead guitar and your vocals sounded great as always. You never fail to entertain! Keep em coming!
Hi Brian, another unusual song choice from you! I thought that was terrific. I thought the sax and guitar worked really well together, the bass line was great, all the other guitar and drum parts fitted in well together and your vocal was excellent.
Terrific production, very entertaining and what a lot of work you must have put into creating all this!
As for the video, well that was just plain weird.
Thank you @MikeSebastianP, much appreciated.
Iāll pass it on
@Jenndye429 If itās a good party, the latter stages are the most fun
Yes, cousin Lars is very good on the olā lead guitar. Mind you he plays mostly by himself, along to backing tracks, so when I ask for some lead guitar, he usually starts soloing on beat one and finishes at the end of the last barā¦ I have to be ruthless with my cutting scissors
Hey Gordon, cheers for the listen and positive comments
Yes, Tor has left me choking dust in his tracks, but as long as heās still ok with providing his old man with parts, Iāll remain a happy camper.
I liked it! Well done by you and each of your family band members. I enjoyed all of the instrumentation. My vote on the solo = - IMHO. It was separated enough in the panning for me to hear them both. Your vocals, as usual were great. The video was quite interesting.
