What are you currently listening to? 2024

When Peaceville Records sent this to my email inbox, they described their upcoming new album as:

“…something more akin to listening to the 1980’s Sunset Strip in an alternate universe from hell

Which sounds awesome! :metal::laughing: However, listening to this single release from said album, it sounds to me more like if Robert Smith had drawn vocal influence from Cronos (Venom) instead of Ian Curtis (Joy Division) :joy: Loving the Cure-like riffage and dark, gothic vibe to this one, excited for the new album! :vampire:

Wow, he is great (listened to all three songs on his YouTube profile now).

Let’s hope the record company stays far far away from any pitch correction ideas.

Got to put this here. . .his tongue is obviously firmly in his cheek. . . .

He’s got a bunch of these. . .he loves poking holes in modern life. . .

(Hope you) Enjoy!

I’m slightly ashamed that today was the first that I’ve heard of this group :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

They are going to take away my 90s rocker chick card

A recent conversation I had with an old friend, as well as a discussion about in our BLIM study group about jazz led me back to a rabbit-hole I was in around February this year.

I had just moved out of Singapore, having spent almost the last 2 years living there, and having built the beginnings of a fulfilling life there with new friends, many of whom had become quite close.

As part of my transition back to the UK, I spent a few months living with my Brother-in-law and his family in Malaysia. He lives about an hour outside of Kuala Lumpur in an area called Semenyih which is really very sleepy.

As I had very little to do there in my spare time, other than the Malaysian’s favourite pastime (eating) I decided to try to learn some Jazz standards on my travel guitar.

As part of my “immersion” into this, I listened to loads of different versions of the songs I was learning.

A recent conversation with the BBP gang reminded me of this gem I discovered back then which, given my circumstances at the time, really hit home and felt personal.

The song is the famous jazz standard Autumn Leaves and the performer is the wonderful, late, Eva Cassidy. I love the simplicity of the performance and yet, how powerful it is.

Listening to it again today brings back memories of that life and those friendships and feels bittersweet, as I look out of the window at the garden watching the autumn leaves…

Cheers,

Keith

That was the perfect antidote for an afternoon of camera failures, rerouting cables. Followed by a perfect recording, which had no sound as I chose the wrong scene in OBS and every take after that snafued. Finally I get one in the can and pop into the JGC to see this and all my cares are now gone.

Thank you Keith.

Thank you from my end as well Keith. What a wonderful rendition. Came to this thread to post a song I found last night but I’ll do it on another day to allow more people see this hidden gem.

I don’t do Halloween. never have done but this time of year I gleefully await the seasonal offering from the Spanish nutjobs that go by the name of Broken Peach. Well it seems a year has past again.

Hannah @Hanichu elsewhere mentioned The Crystal Casino Band of whom I had never heard.

I became curious and seems their music is a fantastic antidote to dark and rainy autumn mornings
