This is what we’re listening to tonight via our generator as the Midwest ice storm has plunged most of us into darkness.

And as we couldn’t get more gas as all the local gas stations are also out of power, things could get interesting later! Thank goodness for our propane firebox!

It’s stayed warm enough (currently 37° F) here in southern Minnesota that it’s all coming down as liquid rain. Supposed to change to snow later. I’m watching NCAA hockey tournament. Right now it’s Western Michigan 2, UMass 1 late in the 3rd period.

@markr31 You can always count on some spring snow living in the climates like that. The thermals stay in rotation for a good part of the year just in case. Same as in the Sierras and in Alaska. Some times I miss it but then I think of snow removal and then not so much.

I can’t think of a better use of a gene.

I almost forgot to add what Inwas listening to during my little break.

I’ve been listening to a lot of classical music in the past month or so. Mostly compositions from guys like Fanelli, Ravel, and Debussy, which are quite different from my favorite flavor of classical music (Romantic era).

Unless I’m in my truck. Then it’s been either 70s-80s country or 70s-80s rock, depending on my mood.

I’m predicting tonight’s fare will be a variety of Blues artists on You Tube while we and our friend sip rye and whiskey while contemplating when our electricity will be restored. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

ETA: was just an hour or so over 7 days. Thank goodness for a propane fireplace and a generator!

I watched Linkin Park with their new singer Emily, I remember her from her old band Dead Sara, so I reminded myself of how good she was!

Waking up this morning to the announcement of a new Hives single and an upcoming album/tour made me happier than it probably had a right to  (at least after I confirmed that it wasn’t an April fools day joke )

I know this isn’t going to be everyone’s thing, but I just love them so much  I make it my personal mission in life to make everyone listen to The Hives at least once

It’s loud and over the top and I love it :guitar:

I’ve taken up an interest in American Sign Language recently thanks to the movie A Silent Voice (check it out if you haven’t! amazing soundtrack if you like piano), but that reminded me that the artist Quadeca released a music video back in 2023 where he signed the lyrics to the song. So, I’m currently listening to both the soundtrack for A Silent Voice and Quadeca. Both are so completely different, but I love them both.

A super song, well sung. Just one man and his guitar. Josh Ritter deserves a wider audience.

Yesterday/today is the anniversary of Kurt Cobains death, most go with the 5th. It does not matter really. They found him on the 8th they dont really know what day it was. Me and my Bro were climbing and snowboarding in Mount Shasta backcountry, we were in town when were heard the news. We just bailed and headed for Seattle. We missed the memorial and Courtney Loves speech by a few hours but we got to hang with a ton of other people who travled from all over the Northwest like us for a couple of days.

Anyway I got a medley of Alt rock/ Grunge performers that I saw live, listened to and that meant a lot to me and the people I was with all the years of the 90s in Reno and Northern California.

I did songs that are not the normal played ones, so hopefully they will be new ones for many of you. These are the people we lost over the years.

Nirvana, You know Your Right. It was Unreleased. Most don’t know this song. it was taped before his death and hidden for over 10 years. Someone tried to claim it as theirs and even performed it. It is now out publicly and credited under the rightful writer.
RIP Kurt

Mad Season, a side project with Layne Stanley from Alice in Chains and Mike Mcreedy of Pearl Jam. Most people don’t know it. But it’s solid song and project.
RIP Layne

Temple of the dog. With Cris Cornell and Eddie Vedder, 2 of the the greatest vocalists of the 90s. RIP Cris

Most know this song but this is a cool interview on a bench at a quad in a park in Soho. Really amazing. During the very early years. Music starts @3:36
RIP Scott

If you are familiar with Queens of the stone age then you may know Mike Lanegan
This is his OG band Screaming Trees.
RIP Mike

Fugazi’s Waiting room, it is so good. We lost one of my best friends and my wifes childhood friend last year. This was his favorite band. He was such a fanatic that he became a unpaid roadie for them because he followed them everywhere.

God we miss you my Brother.
Rest in peace Boozer.

Here’s a terrific performance: as with most of my choices, just a singer and a guitar; such power! Heather Maloney.

Your choices makes me coming back to this thread Brian! Thanks for sharing this one, it’s awesome!

Nice to know my choices ring a chord with others. I’m hoping to see Heather live, later this year: she’s touring with Dar Williams, another awesome singer, song-writer and guitarist.

That’s some groovy funk!

Let’s just say most of what I listen to isn’t on played on commercial radio around here. Spotify, Pandora, etc. have taken a rap over the years but they do make finding artist that the suits aren’t ramming down our throats so much easier to find. For me personally, I find the artist much more enjoyable to listen to then most the stuff on mainstream radio.

Before those two outlets took off, I found a good portion of my music library while doing searches on iTunes. I would be searching for one song or artist and something with a similar name would pop up. I give the sample a listen, think to myself, I really like that, buy it and promptly seek out more songs from that artist. Sometimes that would be the only song I liked from that artist, other times I’d find I like most of their stuff.
