After continuing to post in the 2024 well into January, thought I’d kick this yearly loop thread off a bit earlier as usual, as its 20 mins to the New Year and no one East of me has posted anything yet.
I unashamedly repeat this Black Stone Cherry song but I normally share the Planet Rock Studio version but this one always gets to me.
Why post it again despite it being a great song ? Well after some very rusty restart days I picked up the Takamine, whacked the capo on 9 and went for it. Crashed and burned, fumbled and eventually had a New Years eve sing along. The original was a much needed refresher.
Marquee Moon by Television - I’m learning this bit by bit, using a non-Justinian guitar YouTuber who covers some great material.
Time by Pink Floyd - I’m focused on the introduction at present, with aspirations to capture the nuances of the rhythm guitar parts and, maybe one day, the solos.
Curious how my tastes got cemented in in the 1970s. And all a bit lunar, too.
Firstly Happy new year, I’m just finding my way back in here after an extended break. What I’m listening to (not playing yet, I need to get food) in 2026 is this. https://youtu.be/bSfqNEvykv0?si=fiKJIdlV5JHqj9_N
As the calendar flips and I drag my vintage bones into a new year, Goin’ Down Slow seems like a proper, dominant 7th way to mark the general state of things.
I’ll have to give this a proper listen later. I’ve got the first 4 BSC albums (or maybe 4 consecutive of which this track is on the fourth) but wasn’t sure I liked the later stuff as much. Do you have an opinion on albums they’ve released since “Kentucky”?
This is the opening scene to the movie Rocker. It is an absolute banger vintage reggae movie. It has a ton of well known reggae artists before they hit, also some unknown ones.
I saw this many many years ago as a kid. But one of the things that I love about it is how authentic it is for life on the islands even to this day. When My wife and I lived in the Caribbean for 3 years in the early 2Ks, this is exactly how the locals would be chilling an making music when waiting to pull the fishing nets in or while making bush juice or other things.
Burning Spear, Marcus Garvey another great one. Songs of my childhood.
And I recommended it to you and you said you didn’t have time to and not interested. Kinda ironic isn’t it @metramaks, did someone else made you watch it?
But yeah they have good soundtracks since it’s set in the 80s.
This is one of the most interesting and beautiful songs I’ve come across recently (although it’s not very recent). Several musical genres in it, masterful execution, great production. Everything is right.
