What are you tempted to buy for yourself for Christmas but shouldn't?

This must be a common dilemma in this group, especially where instruments are concerned. Right? Mine is this: I discovered a gorgeous(-looking) Maton Mini Blackwood online (second-hand, which is rare). Too far away to try though and not overpriced, but not a steal either. There seems to be a 50/50 split in reviews between people loving them - even acoustically - and people who ā€¦ donā€™t. I donā€™t really need another guitar, but I have a 3/4/travel one which I much prefer to my bigger one as that gives me shoulder ache, so I have been pondering only ever playing smaller-bodied guitars. And IF I only ever did that AND started playing open mics the Mini would be a good investmentā€¦ (Feel free to leave comments about how terrible they sound when not amped up. )So, what are/were you sorely tempted by this festive season? Did you treat yourself or are you holding back?

Nothing on the music front, but considered for a moment a yearā€™s subscription to chessmood and then sanity prevailed.

Thatā€™s a good question, especially in my case. Iā€™ve been thinking for quite some time now of buying a Harley Benton Double Cut Junior Fat; a beautifully made guitar with a stacked P-90 as a single pickup in the bridge position (it can be split to become a regular single-coil P-90). At Thomannā€™s it now sells for about 250$ US; even for me itā€™s quite affordable. The guitar enjoys great reviews, and all the research Iā€™ve done confirms those opinions. Besides, Iā€™ve had very good experience purchasing guitars from Thomann, even (obviously!) without a possibility of playing them before I buy. And, if I buy it, itā€™s going to be for playing not just owning.
But I knowā€¦ I shouldnā€™t. Too many guitars, I should probably start from selling the ones I donā€™t play any moreā€¦ Anyway, that thought has been tormenting me for some time nowā€¦ A dilemma is a great word for the current state of my mind. Weā€™ll seeā€¦

pfff I see what you mean.

I play with the idea of buying a Remarkable tablet. It enables you to digitally save your scribbled lines, words, structures. Iā€™m a sketcher, a schemer and people say I have a neat handwriting.I must admit that I pay a bit of attention to it; I like the actual writing and feeling the paper bit.

I have a ā€œgraphicalā€ memory but Iā€™m terrible with papers. You see where that goes :stuck_out_tongue:
My worksā€™ backpack is filled with papers

Now that there is a newer model, perhaps I could score the previous one a little cheaper?

Do you need enabling? I can do enabling. (Always found them quite attractive too, tbh.)

I got myself a 1st generation Kindle Scribe with a big reduction in November just before the new one launched (itā€™s functionally identical). I like it. I have one notebook in it where I do some journaling and another for my guitar related notes. The writing feel is actually pretty good, itā€™s not like writing on a sheet of glass.

Iā€™m looking at headless guitars. I like the look of the Strandbergā€™s (definitely out of my budget) and the ones by HILS (more reasonable) that offer 2 different playing positions. Other manufacturers (like Ibanez) have done headless but then put the output jack in that second playing position because theyā€™ve only chopped the head off a regular guitar rather than being innovative. I feel sure Iā€™ll crack in the new year!

Its Whitby but not as we know it Spock !!

Nothing for meā€¦and thereā€™s nothing I need actually on the guitar front. Weā€™re gonna have a few days trip in Tuscany over the New Year, and that will be our Christmas treat.
