Wild World - Cat Stevens

@sairfingers Gordon … la la la la whooo baby you’ve got groove. I love the laid back vibe you’ve created. Like a good wine, you’ve developed more flavours to scintillate the auditory palate during 2025. So glad you’re singing and playing for us again.

Gordon, another one that goes straight onto the One Take Wednesdays Greatest Hits Vol. 3!

Superb!

In isolation the riff is fairly straightforward as it’s a descending C scale. However knowing you have to play it several times in the song is at the back of your mind the whole time.
Thank for the listen Eddie. Much appreciated.

@Dman74
Thanks Darren glad you enjoyed the song. Yes the key thing is to keep going when you make a mistake. Otherwise of course it’s not going to be a one take.
@Lisa_S
Haha yes Lisa. The smile towards the end was just after I messed up one of the riffs. There was a sense of inevitability there as I doubted that I could play the riff so many times without a mistake.
Pleased you enjoyed the song.

Richard, as always everyone’s comments are supportive, if you’ve time, how could the song be improved?

Wow Gordon! Sir, you have a talent to make an acoustic guitar sound what it should! Your rendition was so enjoyable and I’m really glad you’re back sharing your recordings…I find the relaxed vibe you kept through all the song and the individual picked notes really inspiring! I’m already looking foward to the next one!

Thanks to Gordon for his smiles and
thank you Lisa for reminding me, as I sometimes forget myself; what I need to do today is to put myself in front of a mirror for a smiling session :grin::sweat_smile::smiling_face:

@Silvia80
Thanks for the kind comments Silvia and I hope there won’t be such a gap until my next song.
As for the smiles, if I didn’t smile I’d groan and scowl when I make a mistake. Don’t worry, you’re still the Queen of smiles. :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

It works exactly the same here Gordon!

And now we’re proclaming you the King of smiles! @Lisa_S do you agree?

And our countries will be forever allied forces! :grinning_face_with_big_eyes::raising_hands::sweat_smile:

Hi Gordon - you asked for a little suggestion to improve.

Just one little one from me then because all is smooth , relaxed and flowing though most of the song.

The two single note runs that come in the chorus … the first is a descending run after an F major chord and the second is an up & down bass riff on the thick strings after a C major chord.

You don’t quite have them to speed or in rhythm. They are both two beats of 16ths starting on beat 3.

3 e & a 4 e & a

I suggest playing that particular F chord as a mini-barre (either a 4-string or 5-string F/C version) so your index finger tip is much closer to where it needs to be to start the scale run. And simplify the strumming immediately before it - perhaps down strum on beat 1 or beats 1 & 2 only to set yourself up for the single note passage.
Below is the bar as beats 1 then 2 then 16ths below which is the F chord followed by notation of the String / Fret of the first run.

1 _ _ _ 2 _ _ _  3    e    &    a    4    e    &    a
F _ _ _ F _ _ _ S2F1 S2F0 S3F2 S3F0 S4F3 S4F2 S4F0 S5F3

Take a similar approach to the second run.

Addendum - be decisive and clear about the type of single string picking that you use on the 16th runs too … maybe alternate or economy but definitely something you have figured out and practiced in isolation.

Thanks so much Richard. I appreciate that and I’ll revisit the riffs with your suggestion.
The “well done that was great” posts that predominantly fill the AVoYP threads are all very well but if you don’t get critique it’s difficult to know how to improve things.

Agreed but this one was really smooth! Especially with a one take Wednesday after a year, so there was not much to comment! Though, Richard’s suggestions are spot on (as always).
